It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Overall, book was a good listen. Narrators were excellent. I was headed to a 5 star rating until I noticed that I only had 3 minutes left until the book ended and it was no where near a tidy conclusion or time for an epilogue. Before I knew it, BAM.."we hope you have enjoyed this unabridged performance..." Major disappointment especially after 18 hours of build up. 'nough said.

While I can't say the audio was a total bust, I found my self saying "Oh, come on.." over and over.. Unbelievable how many overlooked and missed opportunities the characters brought upon themselves. Prefer a book that has a little hope in it... not much here.

I’ve listened to many, many books which I have wanted to comment on however, I am not a master of words and feel inadequate to write a substantial review. But then I listen to a book like this and I tell myself screw it, just write something, anything, to let viewers know they won’t be wasting a credit by adding this to their library. You’ve already read the publisher's summary so you know what it is about. That is only a scratch on the surface of what you are in for with this book. And besides, it is worth a credit to hear the performance of Edoardo Ballerini who really is one of the best narrators on audible.

The Providence Rider is the fourth installment in the extraordinary series of historical thrillers featuring Matthew Corbett, professional problem solver. The narrative begins in the winter of 1703, with Matthew still haunted by his lethal encounter with notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter. When an unexplained series of explosions rocks his Manhattan neighborhood, Matthew finds himself forced to confront a new and unexpected problem. Someone is trying - and trying very hard - to get his attention.

Which character ??? as performed by Edoardo Ballerini ??? was your favorite?

ALL OF THEM!!! Edoardo Ballerini is amazing as a narrator. "Performed" is an understatement. There are A LOT of characters in this series and Mr Ballerini has a unique voice for everyone of them. It is worth your credit to see his voice...not hear it but see it because that is what he does with his narration, he creates a vision of the words written. It was because of his narration of "Beautiful Ruins" by Jess Walter, that I searched other books by him and came across this series. Now that I've finished these, I'm on to searching some of his other works as I know my credits won't be wasted. He could make a phone book come to life!

    Any additional comments?

Just finished this, the last of the series offered to date and while the stories were VERY enjoyable AND I love to get my credit's worth from a lengthy book, I would not have purchased the 2nd, 3rd or 4th book had they been as long as the 1st (30 hrs!). At times, even the shorter books seemed to drag on. Matthew Corbett ages gradually through the series both physically and mentally and it is a refreshing and somewhat realistic approach to have him fumble along the way...

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

I have listened to over 550 books, some more than once. I can spend hours searching for the best books worthy of my cherished credits. Then, two nights ago, when I opened the home page to shop, Beautiful Ruins was one of the featured books, however I actually thought I had clicked the book next to it. As I said, BEST mistake I've ever made. Soo much detail and development. I never knew I could love a book where all the characters seem so flawed. Needless to say, no hours spent shopping for use of my next credit... another Jess Walter book. Then I'll shop Edoardo Ballerini books! You should too!

New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a best seller when she sees one - even if it is just a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.

Even marrying when—and who—she’s supposed to. If the stuffy Duke of Sussex cannot spark the passion she craves, he can at least give her a family, a home of her own, and a place to belong. With the scandalous nature of her birth to live down, Isabella Fairmont dreams of a proper marriage—even if a passionless one. She saves her deepest desires for the novel she dares to pen, wherein a handsome lord with dark powers seduces her. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Frustrated with "Death"...

    Any additional comments?

I found this audio to be somewhat confusing. The narrators voice wasn't very distinctive going from character to character, male to female, except for the Welsh character. On top of that, it wasn't always clear when the scene was reality or a dream. The whole repetition of the "Death" theme throughout the book became so tedious I found myself rolling my eyes and saying here we go again over and over and over... ugh! I read the second book first, not realizing this is a series, since Audible did not indicate it, and found it to be exceptional. Overall I'm glad I listened to this one and was worth the credit only to help understand the characters and story in more detail as setup for the remaining books.
