  • Absolution Gap

    • UNABRIDGED (27 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Alastair Reynolds
    • Narrated By John Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Inhibitors were designed to eliminate any life-form reaching a certain level of intelligence - and they've targeted humanity. War veteran Clavain and a ragtag group of refugees have fled into hiding. Their leadership is faltering, and their situation is growing more desperate. But their little colony has just received an unexpected visitor: an avenging angel with the power to lead mankind to safety---or draw down its darkest enemy.

    "Absolution Gap - Review"

I really expected to like this book, but as it turns out, this book crawls at a slow pace, to many plots and characters. With this many characters, John Lee has problem with the voice of each, John Lee is the one the saves this novel.

I'm a hardcore SiFi fan and I just could not listen to it more than a hour at a time, I would just drift off, especially during the very vebose discription of equipment or gadgets. I guess some readers like those details, but I like a good plot that moves me and keeps me sitting in the car in the drive way awaiting the next turn of the plot.

  • Distant Thunders: Destroyermen, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Taylor Anderson
    • Narrated By William Dufris

After the battle in which the men of the destroyer Walker and their Lemurian allies repelled the savage Grik, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Reddy is shocked by the arrival of a strange ship captained by one Commaner Jenks of the New Britain Imperial Navy - an island-nation populated by the descendants of British East Indiamen swept through the rift centuries before.

John M says: "Very enjoyable - could have used more action"
"Destroyermen - Book 4 not up to par"

The first two were good, plot moved along very good, character development was good, battle scene were compact and well carried out, Book three was a little more contrived and forced. Book 4, to wordy and contrived, could not finish the books.

  • The First Rule: An Elvis Cole - Joe Pike Novel, Book 13

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Robert Crais
    • Narrated By Robert Crais

The organized criminal gangs of the former Soviet Union are bound by what they call the thieves' code. The first rule is this: A thief must forsake his mother, father, brothers, and sisters. He must have no family - no wife, no children - because only other criminals are his family. If any of the rules are broken, it is punishable by death.

Mystery Addict says: "Not Elvis but a good listen"
    "Another Great Crais Book"

Plot is very good and character are good and Crais does his own dialog. Really enjoyed the book

  • The Traffickers

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By W. E. B. Griffin
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Griffin's popular Badge of Honor police series returns, with a story of murder and lawlessness as compelling as today's headlines. Homicide Sergeant Matthew Payne is used to murder, but lately there's been an awful lot of it in Philadelphia. A gangland shooting in a popular tourist location has left six dead, most of them innocent bystanders, and days later the body of a headless Latina turns up in the Schuykill River.

    Mario says: "Decent Story"
    "The Traffickers"

I got hooked on the By The President Orders series, So I purchased the book even though it had bad reviews, I shoud have learned, this has a slow drawn out plot that wanders all over and ends with a wimper. Character are over developed at the expense of the Plot. I'm a fan of Scott Brick, but he could not save this book. Buyer Beware.

  • First to Kill

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Andrew Peterson
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When you're the best at what you do, it's not always easy to walk away. Nathan McBride was retired. The trained Marine sniper and covert CIA operative had put the violence of his former life behind him. But not anymore. A deep-cover FBI agent has disappeared along with one ton of powerful Semtex explosive, enough to unleash a disaster of international proportions. The U.S. government has no choice but to coax Nathan out of retirement.

Ed says: "Sniper thriller par excellence"
    "First to Kill"

1st book I have listen to by Peterson, and its great. The plot is rich ingood scenes but does not get bogged down. Characters are very good. This is one of thoses books you can not put down until your done. If fact I have listen to it again and still love the book and characters, in fact I have gone out of my way to tell others.
Dick Hill is excellent and put life into the characters.

I really hope that Peterson has more books of this quality coming to us in future

  • Cold Hit

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Stephen J. Cannell
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

Shane Scully and his partner are assigned to the case of "the Fingertip Killer", a serial murderer preying on homeless veterans in Los Angeles. Every two weeks he strikes: he beats his victims, then shoots them in the back of the head. Once they're dead, he cuts off their fingertips, closes their eyes, and tosses them in the river.

Jerret says: "Above average detective thriller"
    "Cold Hit"

This is a very good book, it is everything I expected from Cannell. The plot moves quickly without impacting character development. Scott Brick brings the characters to life. I stayed awake till 2am just to finish the book, it was worth the pay back the next day.
