What made the experience of listening to Oakleaf Bearers the most enjoyable?

I have enjoyed this series immensely and took this book almost as a reflex action. I enjoyed the story, but found it a bit too drawn out. As usual the action got me in, to listen to each bow shot and clang of armor was fun and entertaining. William Zappa did his usual best when reading this tale. I shall look forward to the next book, despite my slight disappointment in this one. it is still a good read.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the continuing story of Will and Holt, of their adventures in other lands as well as their own. Although just a bit labored the story does jog along fairly well, and with Horace as a sidekick as well as princess Cassandra, plus the Skandians kept it going.

What about William Zappa’s performance did you like?

William Zappa is a really good choice to narrate this tale, he can change the accents and not forget who is speaking, all in all it is a good job done.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Bold and exciting in the old fashion way.

    Any additional comments?

The story could have either been a little shorter, or something added to fill in the spaces of music between chapters. I find that in this book, the music after the chapter is announced a bit off putting, I was never sure if I was beginning or ending a chapter, but otherwise no other comments.

When historian Diana Bishop opens an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, it's an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordered life. Though Diana is a witch of impeccable lineage, the violent death of her parents while she was still a child convinced her that human fear is more potent than any witchcraft. Now Diana has unwittingly exposed herself to a world she's kept at bay for years; one of powerful witches, creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires.

    Dragonfly in Amber meets Dracula,
and boy it's a good tale. I have already purchased the rest of the trilogy in anticipation. I just cannot wait to read them either, I have only got 20 minutes left of A discovery of Witches and I know despite the length of these books I will read them one after another. This tale is so involving, normally I am not a reader of anything that smacks of romance, but this one has me. I have gone up and down with the characters and cannot wait to see what happens next. The narrator is really good, she does not make it syrupy sweet so my gag reflex is not in any danger. So if you like Witches and you like paranormal (which is not something I enjoy normally so tit is a complete break in tradition for me) this book will keep you happy for at least 24 hours. I bet you get the other two books as well, just to see how the story goes, well I hope you do, because you will be missing out on a really good story if you don't.

I bought this book on a whim, and I am so glad I did. The story is new and fresh, plus so interesting, I listened to it non stop, all thirteen hours of it. The author is not one I have heard of before but I will be looking for the next book in the series as soon as she finishes writing it. It has magic, action, some humour, some sadness and a whole lot of joy, so I think it has it all. The Narrator is also top of the range as well, keeping the interest going whilst giving each important member of the book their own distinctive voice. So if you are into fantasy with a twist, go for it.

A chilling and dark fantasy from bestselling author Raymond E. Feist. Successful screenwriter Phil Hastings decides to move his family from sunny California to a ramshackle farmhouse in New York State. The idea is to take some time out, relax and pick up the threads of his career as a novelist. Good plan, bad choice. The place they choose is surrounded by ancient woodland. The house they choose is the centrepoint of a centuries-old evil intent on making its presence felt to intruders.

I was surprised by this book, one of Feist's earliest, it was nothing like the Pug ones, but it was worth the credit I can tell you that. I will never think of the fairy folk in the same way again. It is one of the creepiest books I have ever listen to. Forget King and Koontz, the fairies are spookier, it is a very descriptive book, and it makes you think, where did all the stories come from, you know, the Tooth Fairy, the Leprechaun and even Elves, they are all here, but watch out, they are none of them nice.

This is the first book I have read from this author, it will not be the last. There is action from go to whoa, I just had to keep listening. From page one I was hooked, and listened far into the night. the action is wild and the timing well done, at times I found myself holding my breath. I noticed that This Narrator is used for all Mathew Reilly's books, which can only make them better, if that is possible. So if you like action and suspense, this is going to be the book to read,.I have since downloaded two more of his books, which I will review when I read them, so go onto the site and start downloading folks.

This is not one of SKs best at all. I am not sure why, but since his accident he has written some odd ones, and this is one of them. It starts off very slowly, in fact it was quite boring for the first 4 hours, but I thought "it will get better", but all it got was odder and odder. Still I listened right up to the end, and all I can say is, I should not have bothered.
I cannot say the narrator was the trouble, he did what he could with the story he was given, but the story WAS the trouble I think, was it horror, I guess so, I know I will probably lose sleep over it, and I sure will try staying alive, FOREVER.

Most ghosts are okay and just need a little help to get where they need to go. Unfortunately, there are lots of exceptions, like power-mad psychopaths, spirits still trying to fight battles long since lost, and the worst of the lot - the Skinwalkers. They live vicariously by possessing people and controlling them like puppet masters. Then they toss them aside when they've outlived their usefulness."

    Hi there All,
Yes Jim Bernheimer has done it again, I did not think he could have topped his last one, so sue me, I was wrong! He has upped the pace and dug in to more humour as well, the Ghosts are stronger and nastier, has his Ferryman got the where with-all, or will he fall to the dark this time? Read this great sequel and find out, you will enjoy it, truly. There is so much activity going on it is creepy....

Civil War ghosts bent on killing me, Skinwalkers who just want my body, and a vindictive spirit linked both to my bloodline and my destiny... It turns out the dead still hold a good deal of influence over the world, and they don't want to give it up. I'm in way over my head. Fortunately, I'm too stubborn to quit."

I got this title on a whi, and was so glad that I did. This book is full of humour as well as excitement, I love the toungue in cheek throw away's, they are such a change from glooming horror. Oh yes there are scenes of horror all right, but the side on humour is a good thing as well. If you are looking for a book with a difference, this is it, and it keeps you reading far into the A.M. so look out for some late night's and enjoy....

    Hi there All,
I am listening and enjoying this book so much I keep putting off doing things, so I can listen to more, although the Author is just a bit repetitive, it is still interesting enough to keep listening. I have just used another credit to buy the next in line, so you can see that I mean what I say. This is a great series, and I shall be sorry to get to the end, I have not looked to see just how many books there are in it, but then I shall see if this Author has written anything more, because he keeps the story interesting enough to see what happens next. The Narrator has also made me want to go on listening, he seems to have grasped the story and he does not try to make up a voice for everyone in it, just the few key people who are most important to make the story great to hear. I personally cannot wait to find out what happens next.

I just loved this story. No shrinking violet this girl, she may get into a lot of bother, but she needs no ones help to get out of it either. Wolverines Daughter is a rousing tale about a young woman who is confident enough to go out there and do her own thing. At no time was I bored or nauseated by any love entanglement that is often the end of a good story, she was true to herself all the way through. So if you are like me and like a good female lead, read this one, you will not be disappointed.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If this was the only book of this series this hypothetical friend was going to read, I would maybe advise them to give it a go, but if like me they had listened to all the others, I would say, don't bother, you will be disappointed with it. Why, simply this, the narrator is awful!

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character would be, everyone, from A to Z they are all needed in these books. From the least cook, to the biggest king, everyone makes the whole.

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

Miss Dawe does not seem a bit interested in the book she is reading, if she had perhaps listened to some of the other books in this series, she could at least know how to say some of the names used. And she just sounds so bored by the whole thing, she is depressing, had I bothered to see who the narrator was, I would have left this one alone.

Was Limits of Power worth the listening time?

I'm sure the story would have been very interesting, if I had not flinched every time Miss Dawe mispronounced a name or feature of this world. As it was I could only stand about thirty or fourty minutes before turning it off, but no it was not worth me listening to it, sorry!
I should have taken notice of who was going to read it, as I have been turned off twice before with Miss Dawe narrating, she does not have the tallent needed for this job.

    Any additional comments?

As I am blind, these books form a great part of my life and enjoyment of it, and so I buy a great many of them. I was a huge fan of reading when I could see, and now listening is something that keeps my mind lively. So a bad Narrator is like someone dragging their fingernails down a chalk board to me.
