The personal memoir was entertaining and encouraging, but it was much longer on 'memoir' than it was on 'craft'.
Smooth and consistent.
No. Not that sort of book.
As a memoir of the craft, I had hoped that the discussion of craft would be deeper. I certainly don't regret the time spent with it, but there weren't really any new revelations about the craft of writing, just reiterating things I've heard from others or figured out on my own. Perhaps that just means I'm on the right track.
Kevin Hearne spins a fine tale; if you liked Hounded, you'll like Hexed. The characters engage, and he makes the fantastic believable. Luke Daniels has a voice for every character, but never gets so theatrical that he gets in front of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sutherland reading Hemingway. He gets it right. Very little theatrics, very restrained, fits the material perfectly. I think Hemingway would have approved.
