"Don't Make it End!"
This book is so fabulously written, with rich and poignant metaphor and simile, humor and a
BIG HEART and observant eye for life, that I
find myself listening in the car on the whole
5 minute trip to the high school and back. The
narration is almost as remarkable as the writing! Don't miss this one...and waiting to
find White Teeth and anything else Smith has ever written available on Audible soon!!
"disappointed"
After reading On Beauty, which was FABULOUS, I could hardly wait to read White Teeth, Zadie Smith's first book. What a disappointment! I found it very difficult to follow the transitions between characters and didn't find any of the characters interesting enough to make me want to follow them. There was very little light or redemption in site and the characters were not only bleek and seedy but boring as well. In the end, I gave up about 2/3 of the way through, telling myself "this is just more than I wanted to know about turtles".
"Heartfelt and soothing"
In the last few years this is my favorite audible book to date. A bit hard to get into for me but after 15 minutes or so the gentle rhythm is picked up, the excellent voice of Maggi-Meg Reed and Christopher Burns plays a big factor in this gently addictive story. The quality of the interactions and observations about life, in their human vulnerabilities is refreshing and reassuring. This is a great read!
