Following the success of Forgotten Voices of the Great War, the series now chronicles one of human histories darkest hours. The author comes to the project following her significant work in recording the experiences of Holocaust survivors for the Imperial War Museum sound archive, one of the most important archives of its kind in the world. The intertwined moving and revealing interviews reveal the sheer complexity and horror of the Holocaust.

Sean says: "A bit short, but very compelling"
"To forget is to repeat !!"
    Overall

It is a totally unbelievable thing of how quickly "we" forget what these precious souls have endured under the realization of evil NOT stopped.

Are you listening? These blessed souls lived through the "all is well" "we can talk to them" "they love peace" if we do not learn from the words of these wonderful souls who lived, breathe, and endured the hatred of a man who said "I only want to help my people" "we want peace, we mean no one any harm"

Can you imagine a group of people breaking down your door and beating you with a perfect hatred and your family divided and you remember those who raised the alarm; do they sound stupid now, are they now alarmists???

Please read this book and remember they once lived in peace and prosperity. I highly recommend this book.

In the third and last volume of this vivid history, Shelby Foote brings to a close the story of four years of turmoil and strife which altered American life forever. Here, told in rich narrative and as seen from both sides, are those climactic struggles, great and small, on and off the field of battle, which finally decided the fate of this nation.

    Tad Davis says: "Incredible"
"A fantastic Story Telling of a Truly Horrific Time"
    Overall

The civil war was truly a defining moment in American history ! Shelby Foote was a man who through his pen brought us face to face with the titanic figures of this war. He brings us into the personal lives of so many "yankees" and "rebs" common foot soldiers, officers, Generals, civilans, and the common folk; I found it both terrifing and unbelievable as letters are read, relationships long since gone into history once again alive and breathing life into my ears.

I laughed heartily and I cried deeply for the people of this historical event called the Civil War. I love Shelby's way of writing and his gentle, warm southern charm; this comes seeps through the book everywhere. The late Mr. Foote was brutally honest to both sides and maintain a fair and very well balanced view of the civil war.

I cannot do this book justice in writing this review by my words - this book - The Civil War by Shelby Foote is something that you Audible listener MUST experience for yourself !! As you listen time fades away as you stand transfixed on the events unfolding right there before your eyes and ears.

Every single person must listen to this book as it touchs on every single issue that you will every encounter in your life. Download this book now YOUR experience is waiting !! :)

England 1760-1815. With the advent of the Regency period the Blackadder's family fortune has rather plummeted. Edmund Blackadder, butler to the Prince Regent, veers from calamity to disaster with very little in the way of constructive help from either his imbecile Lord and master the Prince Regent or the mouse-brained Baldrick.

    J. says: "crackling wit"
    "Blackadder is terrific"
    Overall

Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Laurie are stupendious in this series !! One moment please .... shut up Baldrick !! As I was saying this is a absolutely top notch british humour, I love it !!

You may listen to this and watch it and either way it is one terrific show !!

Until Pitt the younger starts shaving, download this and hold on to your sides.

Hugh Laurie also stars in the hit TV show House MD entering it's third season :)

The enigma of Alexander the Great has remained with us for 2,300 years. In spite of the best efforts of historians, Alexander is no less a mystery to us now than he probably was during his own lifetime. There was no one like him before or since. In the pages of Harold Lamb's intriguing Alexander of Macedon, we find some of the answers to the great riddle of his character.

    Michael says: "Read Arrian first"
    "Alexander a purpose from history"
    Overall

Alexander of Macedon by Harold Lamb, is a brillant essay on the life and times of a colossus figure from history Alexander the Great.

From beginning to the end is a terrific listen and it holds you by the throat at times as you find yourself sitting at council with Alexander and his men, next you are in the heat of battle, and than you hear the faint talk of men in the camp as your eyes slowly close by the crackling fire.

Please download this book it is a great collection for your audio library. I have it in mine :)

The seventeenth century was one of the most fascinating and seminal periods in European history, particularly with regard to France. For it was here in France that the fruits of the earlier Renaissance were to be most brilliantly realized. Although the path of "greatness" for Louis XIV was prepared for him by men like Richelieu, Mazarin, Colbert, Turenne, and Louvois, it was during his reign that French preeminence in all facets of civilization emerged.

Louis the 14th, the sun king. Here is the opening door to the wealth of the french king who did as he pleased and was pleased in what he did !!

The life of spendor, and of self, where you as king could well said what Mel Brooke said"It's good to be the king" ! It was of course not "good to be poor"

This is a well written book that is both candid and explantive in the areas covered. Again wealth beyond measure, in a time of need and frustration.

I heartily recommend this book as a delightful read and a true experience to be enjoyed !!

The Crusades by Richard A. Newhall is a grand listen filled with facts and stories to hold one in wonderment for very long periods of time.

This was a time of uncertainty, a time of deals and back door deals where life was short and country was everything !

The scope and pace of this book is wonderful and if you close your eyes you may find yourself looking out though your helment as the horse you sit upon shakes and rocks with excitment, waiting for you to join the battle !!! Ccchhaaarrggeee !!!!!

When Hitler's war ended in 1945, the war over Hitler, who he really was, what gave birth to his unique evil, had just begun. Hitler did not escape the bunker in Berlin, but, half a century later, he has managed to escape explanation in ways both frightening and profound.

Ashley says: "Perspective of 60 years"

    Overall

This is a very interesting book for several reasons; the author Ron Rosenbaum has done a remarkable job with his views and reseach results in this very well written book.

Adolf Hitler was a gargantuan figure in history, his whole purpose in life was the total and complete destruction of the jewish people - period!!

Mr. Ron Rosenbaum not only reveals new insights into the horrible person of Hitler but also looks at the other persons views and distortions.

I highly recommend this book, It is a keeper!!!

For the fourth time, the Army of the Potomac (now under the control of Burnside) attempts to take Richmond, resulting in the bloodbath at Fredericksburg. Then Joe Hooker tries again, only to be repulsed at Chancellorsville as Stonewall Jackson turns his flank, a bitter victory for the South, paid for by the death of Lee's foremost lieutenant.

Here begins one of the most remarkable works of history ever fashioned. All the great battles are here, of course, from Bull Run through Shiloh, the Seven Days, Second Manassas to Antietam, and Perryville in the fall of 1862, but so are the smaller and often equally important engagements on both land and sea: Ball's Bluff, Fort Donelson, Pea Ridge, Island Ten, New Orleans, Monitor versus Merimac, and Stonewall Jackson's Valley Campaign, to mention only a few.
