en in Jeans: Richard Daniels thinks life can't any stranger working at Area 51until he gets assigned to find out where a Houston area SF writer gets the ideas for her books. Should be an easy assignment-if it weren't for the dead guy in her back yard and the non-business related ideas she's giving him. Steam Time: The man formerly known as Tobias Smith hadn't planned to ride along with Dr. Everly and his Medicine Show. Grifters gave him a pain their elixirs couldn't heal. But he was headed to Marfa, too.

I've listened to more than 100 books and never before have I canned a book, not because of the story but because of the narrator. The story might be good - I didn't have the patience to listen to more than about half an hour. The narrator has a passable voice but her pacing is abysmal with long pauses between sentences for no apparent reason, the sound level changes (maybe not her fault) and her diction needs work. I bought the book because of the summary of the story and it might be really engrossing (read by a different reader) - I'll never know. So I rated it on expectations not on the reality.

It just tooooo kitchy for me. In the first scene our heroine has been turned into something gross and her cookie-baking friend is trying to reverse the spell while baking cookies, which the "thing" devours. Hmmm - not my taste (pardon the pun - or don't).

Award-winning author, narrator, and screenwriter Neil Gaiman personally selected this book, and, using the tools of the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), cast the narrators and produced this work for his audiobook label, Neil Gaiman Presents. In this exciting new "illuminated production", the author herself reads her own work, supported by a full cast.

Best-selling novelist Kate Drake is one of seven sisters gifted with amazing powers of witchcraft. Returning home in time for her northern California town's annual Christmas pageant, Kate catches the spirit of the season and decides to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down historic mill. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a local contractor, doesn't mind working in the undeniably eerie house -- not if it means getting closer to Kate. There's something about the quiet, sensual woman that powerfully attracts him.

...but there's always an exception. This woman sounded (as she carefully enunciated every word) like she was reading to a child not like she was telling a tale. I don't know about the story because I pitched the book early because of the narration.

An earthquake in Masada, Israel, kills hundreds and reveals a tomb buried in the heart of the mountain. A trio of investigators - Sergeant Jordan Stone, a military forensic expert; Father Rhun Korza, a Vatican priest; and Dr. Erin Granger, a brilliant but disillusioned archaeologist - are sent to explore the macabre discovery, a subterranean temple holding the crucified body of a mummified girl. But a brutal attack at the site sets the three on the run, thrusting them into a race to recover what was once preserved in the tomb's sarcophagus: a book rumored to have been written by Christ's own hand....

I really liked the story, although you REALLY have to suspend disbelief. The one drawback is that it doesn't end. You need to read the next book to tie up lots of very loose ends. I don't think this has to discourage you, just be warned.

The Mongol queens of the 13th century ruled the largest empire the world has ever known. Yet sometime near the end of the century, censors cut a section from The Secret History of the Mongols, leaving a single tantalizing quote from Genghis Khan: “Let us reward our female offspring.” Only this hint of a father’s legacy for his daughters remained of a much larger story.

I read his Genghis Khan bio and loved it. This one is a bit too "factual" without the glimpses of the people's smaller activities. Maybe the scope was too big and he should have singled out fewer women to profile.

Homicidal is the story of the almost 25-year serial-murder crime spree of Lonnie Franklin Jr., who is alleged to have killed at least 10 women in Los Angeles, if not more. Nicknamed by the media the Grim Sleeper, because there appeared to be a 13-year lull in the killings, Franklin met most of the women through random encounters that ended in murder. Significant blunders by the Los Angeles Police Department helped Franklin avoid arrest for years.

I had downloaded this book a while ago so when I started listening I didn't remember that it's non-fiction. A well told tale of a serial murderer over a span of several decades - how the police missed several opportunities to identify him and how, eventually, a sophisticated DNA search finally brought him to justice.

Before he was anointed to carry on the legacy of Robert Ludlum's Janson Command series, and before he collaborated with Clive Cussler on the fan favorite Isaac Bell series, Justin Scott created this suspenseful adventure tale, a novel of love and revenge set on the high seas. Written in 1978, this is considered by many to be one of the best maritime thrillers of all time. As an expert in the world of ships and sailing, Justin Scott creates an authentic maritime world, making The Shipkiller all the more thrilling because it could be a true story.

"Curiosity is definitely going to get me dead one of these days. Probably real soon. I'm Gin Blanco. You might know me as the Spider, the most feared assassin in the South. I'm retired now, but trouble still has a way of finding me. Like the other day when two punks tried to rob my popular barbecue joint, the Pork Pit. Then there was the barrage of gunfire on the restaurant. Only, for once, those kill shots weren't aimed at me. They were meant for Violet Fox."

He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.
