In the second book of the Star Force series, Kyle Riggs has another bad year. The Nano ships have a new mission--one that sentences their pilots to death. Meanwhile, the governments of Earth want to steal Star Force's Nano technology for their own. Worst of all, Earth has made a promise to the Macros, and the machines are coming to collect.

I think there are a lot of interesting ideas and concepts. I enjoy this series, but it is not one that I wait all year for the next one like the destroyermen and lost fleet series'.
Also I find the commander's girlfriend very annoying. Obviously the author identifies with his hero so he gave him a beautiful 23 year old bimbo with a great body and limited brains, that loves sex, for his companion.
I could really do without that character.
Some of the other characters are really great characters. I love Jack and the general. Most of the others just are placeholders for the story with no depth.
The story is really the star of the books.with many twists and surprises. The technology is interesting and The books keep my interest, but I don't think I will re read the series when the next one comes out as I do with the In Death series or the destroyermen books.

Good, enjoyable, worth the credit but forgettable afterwards. not 5 stars

“I didn’t do it!” is something cops hear all the time. But when the plea comes from a close friend who’s fallen on hard times, it’s tougher to ignore, especially for young Officer Danny Boyle. It’s the start of another action-packed summer for the wisecracking Boyle and straight-arrow cop (now chief of detectives) John Ceepak down the Jersey Shore as they do their best to help Danny’s friend, a young nurse who claims she has been falsely accused of aggravated assault by a prestigious Sea Haven doctor.

This time we see the Jersey shore recovering from hurricane Sandy. I really love the characters and the humor in this series. The Narrator really captured the voices and personalities, particularly of a female villain in the story. The story is really good, and the old adage, "no good deed goes unpunished" is amply demonstrated. I know that I miss some of the cultural references, since I am not a Bruce Springsteen fan, but that doesn't bother me. This series is always fun and lighthearted, even when it deals with the ugly crimes and people. I hope John Ceepak comes back for many more chapters.

It is a boiling summer in Boston. Adding to the city's woes is a series of shocking crimes that end in abduction and death. The pattern suggests one man: "The Surgeon," serial killer Warren Hoyt, known for his partial dissection of his victims, and recently thrown behind bars. Police can only assume an acolyte is at large, a maniac basing his attacks on the twisted medical techniques of the madman he so admires.

I was disappointed with this book because I read a later book from the series first.
Anna fields is a narrator I don't care for. I just don't like her voice. She does a competent job, so draw your own conclusions.
Unlike many of Audibles Series offerings, The readers change throughout the series. They are all ok and don't ruin the books or mispronounce names, as is often the case in some of the other series I have listened to.
This book needs to be read for the character foundations, and it is an ok book. The later books are much better, with more intricate plotting, interesting stories and plenty of twists.
Read this one and then get the others in the series. You won't be disappointed.

I enjoyed this story enough to investigate the rest of the series. The English Upper Classes traveling in India is interesting. The murder mystery was good. I enjoyed it and did not guess the culprit like I often do.
I found this to be a good but not a great book for me.
The reader was adequate, but some of the voices were too over the top.
What was missing for me in this book was humor. That often makes a book special and rounds out the characters. I followed the story here but I did not care about the characters. The story did not evoke any strong emotion and I will forget it quickly but I did enjoy it and will probably try another of this series.

What did you like best about Lure? What did you like least?

I liked the story line and concept and enjoyed the humor but found it hard to like the characters. The main character is an ex cop, had been a cop for a number of years, suposedly a good one, but she has no common sense.and drinks herself into a stupor at parties she can't remember most nights.Drinking and the stupidity that comes of it seems to be a main theme. Her best friend is even worse and has no ability to keep her mouth shut in any situation. there are some very funny scenes but these girls do not learn from their mistakes. the story is good enough to keep me rlistening, but I keep wanting to yell at "Shells" to Shut up! I know this is the start of a series, but I really have to enjoy the characters to commit to a series. If you like drunken revelry and stupidity, this is your book. It keeps my attention enough to finish it,which is why it has 3 stars. but that is the best I can say..

Would you listen to A Rising Thunder again? Why?

yes. It is part of a memorable series. The author had built an amazingly complete and complicated universe. I would like the story to move a little faster and have more battles. In this book there was only one and it was not detailed. The politics were more important. and they are important to the story, but I wish for less emphasis on the politics. Never the less. I will grab anything in this series or from this author. Great stuff!! most of all I hate the wait for the next installment.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Rising Thunder?

    The treecats make a decision.

Which character ??? as performed by Allyson Johnson ??? was your favorite?

    Honor, of course.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I wish it did not ring so true how vulnerable we are to the lies we are told by our leaders.

    Any additional comments?

Start at the beginning of the series or you will be lost! but it is well worth the many hours of reading. I love the long books!!!!!

It's hard to find work as a doctor when using your real name will get you killed. So hard that when a reclusive billionaire offers Dr. Peter Brown, aka Pietro Brnwa, a job accompanying a sexy but self-destructive paleontologist on the world's worst field assignment, Brown has no real choice but to say yes. Even if it means that an army of murderers, mobsters, and international drug dealers-not to mention the occasional lake monster-are about to have a serious Pietro Brnwa problem.

What made the experience of listening to Wild Thing the most enjoyable?

The first book in this series, Beat the Reaper is one of my favorites. this is not as good, but close. I am not one who enjoys listening to the F-word over and over, and frankly this book would be shortened considerably if you took it out. That, the obsessive sexual thoughts of the main character and some rathervisious politics are the down sides to this otherwise very enjoyable. book.It is a unique story line with crazy characters. The arguments were very entertaining. and scientific discussions interesting. It is Non Stop from start to finish. I will immediatly grab any book by this author.

    Any additional comments?

This book is very, loudly, viciously political. Since I am an independant, with leanings to the republican side, I was at times uncomfortable with the vitriol especially against a currently living person who may or may not deserve it.Just to top it off this author ends this book with a diatribe on how the republicans have systematicly destroyed, our environment, monetary system, corrupted world governments, and will bring about world starvation perhaps in our lifetime all for individual political gain. I did not listen to it all. I just don't believe that the bad guys are all on one side in this world. I chose to ignore all of this and enjoy an otherwise entertaining book.

    Story

I enjoy Scifi and books in series so I was hoping for a good one here. I wound up frustrated and shaking my head. It is like an outline with no details. Very little is explained enough so you can swallow it. WARNING-Spoilers ahead...So this 18 year old leaves home by himself for space for the first time, meets a prince on board the ship he is on, who puts him in charge of a force of seasoned ground fighting mercenaries who he then saves because he knows more than they do and then he has the commander of the group shot. Huh? The prince is mad, but that's ok cause the kid already has another job where where he takes 5 ships and does something that everyone said couldn't be done, so they put him in charge of a planetary force. Makes sense, right? He wins one battle on the ground and commands five ships that pretend to attack to scare a planet, so that qualifies him in to be in charge of a whole planet's army. He wins one battle, so then the make him Commander and Chief of All of the planetary armies! At that point I gave up and moved on to a much better book. oh well...I wish I had that credit back....
