  • Soulless: An Alexia Tarabotti Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Gail Carriger
    • Narrated By Emily Gray
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.

Pamela I Greene says: "Amelia Peabody has competition"
    "Simply Horrible!"

I decided to give this book a try based on the positive reviews. What a waste of time and credit this purchase was! I personally had to force myself to listen to the first half and just "tossed in the towel" when it came time for the second half. I found the story to be so boring and over all juvenile! I am a fan of such authors as Stephen King and Anne Rice but I have also enjoyed the The Twilight Series and The Vampire Diaries. So please understand when I use the word "juvenile" I am in reference to the authors choice of words and over all construction of the book. As far as the narrator I feel bad saying this but her voice was irritating! Which for me is very odd since I find most British accents to be soothing. I do not know if that is her "normal" reading voice or if she is "acting". This is the first book I have ever purchased from this author and this narrator. Considering all; it will be my last.

  • Doctor Sleep: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Will Patton

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

D says: "The sequel to the book; not the movie"
    "Danny is back!!!"

I am a huge Stephen King fan but on that note; I enjoy many of his books more than others. I usually know with in 10 min if Im going to be "hooked" or "just listen" while I go about my sewing. Within 5 min I was hooked in the most pleasant way! So much so at times I had to turn off my audio book that I was able to get work done!
I was transported back to the Overlook hotel and the fears that came when I first read the Shining in my teen years! If you happen to be a old time fan like myself; you will absolutely love this book and have the question we all have waited so long for finally answered.. What became of Danny Torrance?!

Blythe says: "Best dog book ever!"
"A MUST for anyone who loves dogs!"

I typically only write reviews over books that I personally find to be horrible.(My way of helping other listeners from wasting a credit who think the same way as I do) I have a library FULL of books that I dont like! I purchased this book not with credits but additional money when Audible offered this book on sale. The money I applied to this book was the best purchase I have made in quite awhile! This book goes into my "Fave" pile!! From the start I was engulfed into the characters. I laughed and cried from start to finish! I have always had dogs and currently have 3 Golden Retrievers. I found myself looking at each of them through out the story and imagining "that is EXACTLY what Luci would say" etc! I thought of my childhood and that "unconditional friend" your dog always is. It made me smile at the memories of my dogs whom have passed away a long time ago. As I said in the title.. A MUST for anyone who loves dogs! In my opinion it is suitable not only for adults but for teenagers also. Hope you love it as much as I did!

  • Dark Lover: The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By J.R. Ward
    • Narrated By Jim Frangione

The vampire Darius fears for the life of his half-breed daughter, who is unaware of her unusual destiny. To oversee her transformation, Darius seeks help from Wrath, a dangerous loner and the world's only purebred vampire.

Tracy says: "Amazing start to this awesome series!"
    "Such a disappointment!"

I have been a fan of Stephen King and Anne Rice books for years. After seeing so many positive reviews for this series I decided to give it a try.I honestly had a hard time listening to this book. I found the vampires in this series to be very "Comic Book" type; from their names, mannerism and even appearance.
Many people love this series but if you happen to enjoy a vampire series that is more on the line of how Anne Rice, Stephen King or even the "twilight" series is; you might find this book to be as much as a disappointment as I do.
