Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

What if your whole world was a lie? What if a single revelation - like a single choice - changed everything? What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected? The explosive conclusion to Veronica Roth's #1 New York Times best-selling Divergent trilogy reveals the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of listeners in Divergent and Insurgent.

Have you listened to any of Emma Galvin and Aaron Stanford ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I loved that Trice and Tobias were performed by 2 different readers. These two brought the story to life. Emma, of course, performed in Divergent & Insurgent. Aaron's performance was my first listen.

    Any additional comments?

Great finale for the trilogy. Well written and thought provoking!

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps." Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Looking for Alaska brilliantly chronicles the indelible impact one life can have on another.

What made the experience of listening to Looking for Alaska the most enjoyable?

It's so realistic. Easy to identify with the characters - we've all been teenagers.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed all the characters! Each of them shared a part of themselves... the humor throughout the story was delightful.

What does Jeff Woodman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He differentiated each of the characters - made it easy to picture them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Zen feel of the moments of realization were delicious.

i highly recommend this book to all those 16 years of age & beyond.

After narrowly surviving his last operation, Gabriel Allon, the wayward son of Israeli intelligence, has taken refuge behind the walls of the Vatican, where he is restoring one of Caravaggio's greatest masterpieces. But early one morning he is summoned to St. Peter's Basilica by Monsignor Luigi Donati, the all-powerful private secretary to his Holiness Pope Paul VII. The body of a beautiful woman lies broken beneath Michelangelo's magnificent dome.

What disappointed you about The Fallen Angel?

George Guidall is possibly my least favorite narrator. His staccato cadence & poor breath control ruin this story. I am a huge fan of Silva's Gabriel Allon series - noting that some are better than others. I gave this novel 5 hours and finally could no longer tolerate this narrator's rendition of this story. Why on earth anyone would select Guidall to read anything other than the phonebook is a mystery to me. Phil Gigante is absolutely the best narrator of the Allon series. That said, the story itself was not terribly engaging... Silva might be falling into the 'formula fiction' rut.

For his next trick, he’ll relieve Josh Masters, the famous illusionist vying for the affections of Charlie’s friend Victoria, of $60,000 in casino chips stashed in his hotel safe. What did you love best about The Good Thief's Guide to Vegas?

I loved the wit & dry humor of the author, delivered impeccably by the narrator. The main character's descriptions were thoroughly entertaining.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

He captured the essence of Charlie & delivered it. Since I knew that he was also the narrator of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, I was impressed with his amazing performance in this novel. He made the story & the characters come to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    I laughed a lot!

This is a great light read - it's not fluff, but it's fun.

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

What did you love best about Winter of the World?

This tapestry, well woven. with the second generation of the five families is brilliantly conceived and executed. I continued to learn so much history from this time period.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Winter of the World?

There are so many that it is difficult to choose. That's not a cop-out either. It's true!

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

William. John Lee does a wonderful British accent. His Russian is good as well. I wish I could say the same about his American accents ... those leave a little to be desired.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I couldn't get over the devastation and horrific circumstances in Germany before, during and after the war. The brutality of war was overwhelming.

Every morning, A wakes in a different person’s body, a different person’s life. There’s never any warning about where it will be or who it will be. A has made peace with that, even established guidelines by which to live: Never get too attached. Avoid being noticed. Do not interfere. It’s all fine until the morning that A wakes up in the body of Justin and meets Justin’s girlfriend, Rhiannon. From that moment, the rules by which A has been living no longer apply....

What did you love best about Every Day?

I truly enjoyed 'walking in the shoes' of all different kinds of personalities - in all walks of life. AND it had an unexpected plot twist!

    Which scene was your favorite?

A's ultimate gift to R was so loving that it brought tears to my eyes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Because this book was so 'delicious', I enjoyed stretching this story out. I didn't want to 'gulp' it down in one sitting & have it be gone. It was a story to savor & think about.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the narrator as well. She had just the right kind of voice for this story.

Since she’d been on the outside, she’d survived an Aether storm, she’d had a knife held to her throat, and she’d seen men murdered. This was worse. Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don’t get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She’s been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.

If you could sum up Under the Never Sky in three words, what would they be?

First of all, the narrator: usually female narrators, in my experience, are harder to listen to- NOT so in this case. After the initial chapter full of teenage stereotypes, the narrator was perfect. She has a vocal resonance that is easy to listen to. The story grabs you in the first chapter. Action, adventure, intrigue - it's all here and more. Definitely an excellent read/listen.

What did you like best about this story?

The concept is intriguing. Realms, pods, the Death Shop. Clever, creative- a wonderful read/listen!

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

    Overall

YA Dystopian societies are not usually at the top of my list of 'must-reads', however, this one is an exception. I'm a high school Teacher Librarian, and a group of students introduced me to this genre. Hunger Games was great. Incarceron, so-so. Divergent, excellent!! Wonderful writer, interesting society-faction concept, twists & turns, a touch of romance and an incredible thought-provoking storyline. Even though I was aware that this was the first of a trilogy ... it didn't spoil the story - because there are so many ways that it can go. The author is gifted & the narrator is quite believable. I highly recommend this novel!
