"Just fun..."
The narrator is terrific and it is a fun story that moves right along. Enjoyed it in the car while commuting.
The book compares a bit to the Amelia Peabody books in that the heroines carries a dangerous parasol and have passionate relationships with their incorrigible husbands.
Emily has great accents - very easy to tell who is talking.
"Great light entertainment"
It moves along at a good pace, was interesting but didn't require that I hear every word. There are some humorous moments as well.
She is easy to listen to...
This is a great book for a car trip where you need to pay attention to the road first and the book second. It isn't so complex that you get lost in the plot but it is fun and moves along. I have listened to several in this series and they are just "fun"!
"You feel like you are there."
Very good. The narrator is great at the accents and making clear who is talking. Really enjoyed listening to him. The story unfolds gradually and has twists and turns that ultimately become clear. It kept me very engaged.
The accent!
"Very Fun Listen!"
I really enjoy the Anna Pigeon novels...they are great stories with lots of twists and turns.
Anna is my favorite character. I like that she is fallible and yet never gives up.
Barbara Rosenblat was really good at the accents - and there were many. You could always tell who was talking.
"Impressive"
I was reluctant to read this book - passed it up in the airport over and over. I'm not sure why...perhaps felt it was too predictable. I was wrong. Finally, I got this audio version and just loved it. It really brought the story to life. The book is about a circus back during the depression. I am not familiar with that time and after I read this I felt like I had been part of it. Great story, sad at times but ultimately triumphant - great ending which I won't spoil.
"A Must Read if You are over 50!"
I plan to recommend this book to several friends because it tells you some very practical basic things to do to prepare for the last third of your life - to make it better, more meaningful and active. My husband and I enjoyed it in the car on a long drive and that day when we went to eat...we both were more conscious and ordered better options. I think this is a trend that will stick. The authors don't just say exercise more, eat less crap - they tell you why and make it meaningful!
