The book isn't a dry regurgitation of historical facts. The facts are there. But the story is brought to life due to the real like like reading of the book. You feel as if you are there.
What I liked most was how Washington was really just any man. Yet he wasn't He made choices that lead him to where he was. He could have told his mother he was going to leave with his brother. But he did what he knew was right. He obeyed his mother.
He could have said no to Adams and others and not taken the charge of the Continental army, but he did so. And he did so humbly.
The death bed scene with Washington. You really get to understand just how old and weak he had become. The strong, tall man was now reduced. But he died the same humble man he had always been...
Yes, I hated having to leave it. The more I heard the more I wanted to know what would happen next. Even though I knew much of the history already.
I get it. "History in an hour". But it was so rushed, so glossed over key points... I ended up screaming at the book more than enjoying it.
I love the John Carter series. The story is very original.
But with the last few books. as with this one. You can tell Burrough's is getting tired of JC.
Still loved to hear the story. But this one is my least favorite
Loved the story. The book was awesome...
But what the hell is Dotrice doing in this one? Not only did he change voices in the last book but he also changes voices from chapter to chapter. Drove me crazy when he changed Stannis's voice from chapter to chapter.
But over all a good read.
Everyone keeps thinking that Dotrice didn't do book four. He did! And it stinks. He changed almost all the voices to the characters. The story was great but the audio just makes me grit my teeth. Like Dull Ed going from sounding like an idiot to sounding like a whiskey drinking old man. It just stinks!
Lets hope book 5 is better.
Ugh, what a let down. I mean really. I won't ruin the story for anyone. But Jack, really! And the husband??? And nothing but a damn phone call!?!?!
It feels like to me the author just ran out of steam.
