When an exotic stranger, Vianne Rocher, arrives in the French village of Lansquenet and opens a chocolate boutique directly opposite the church, Father Reynaud identifies her as a serious danger to his flock, especially as it is the beginning of Lent, the traditional season of self-denial. War is declared as the priest denounces the newcomer's wares as the ultimate sin.

The world of ancient Egypt springs magnificently to life in this astonishing historical novel of love, war, political intrigue, and religious revolution. Told from the first person point of view, it is the story of Sinuhe, physician to the royal court of Pharaoh Amenhotep III and his successors in the middle of the tumultuous 14th century B.C.

Fernando says: "Best historical Novel Ever written"
    "excellent book"
    Overall

A true classic, I enjoyed it very much. It has one of the few of objective views on the great Akhnaton times. Deep and full of wisdom in portraying the life and thoughts of a great physician.

As Volume 2 of The Egyptian opens, Thebes is in the grip of panic brought on by famine, disease, and the threat of war. The fear crazed mob is on the verge of anarchy. Pharaoh Akhnaton, self-absorbed in his new religion, is now openly despised by nearly all. Sinuhe remains loyal. In the background, the priests and royal household begin to arrange for his removal and attempt to enlist Sinuhe in their plot.

Nefertiti and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped by all that her strong personality will temper the young Amunhotep's heretical desires.

    A User says: "Very Interesting"
    "Full of Lies!"
    Overall

Although depending on some historic events, the view portrayed Nefertiti and Akhnaton is incorrect, full of lies, and don't make sense. Akhnaton was a great philosopher, a priest, and pro peace. An important change of Art, and Architecture had an impact on the theories of today. The beauty of Nefertiti that we all know today, can not reflect the evil figure portrayed.
