Since 1990, when Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time® burst on the world with its first book, The Eye of the World, listeners have been anticipating the final scenes of this extraordinary saga, which has sold over 40 million copies in over 32 languages. When Robert Jordan died in 2007, all feared that these concluding scenes would never be written. But working from notes and partials left by Jordan, established fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson stepped in to complete the masterwork.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but only because it finished the series

Has A Memory of Light turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, because I know that there's better fantasy fiction out there.

What about Michael Kramer and Kate Reading ’s performance did you like?

They have narrated every book in the series and both do a marvelous job at vocal characterization. Each character was unique and identifiable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Sanderson's politically correct values were heavily pressed upon the text. The cultures in the world of the Wheel of Time had their own values and he should not have imposed his upon them. Rather he should have worked within the values that were there to bring about character development in a more organic way.

The good that I can say about this book is that battle scenes were very well done, though they might have used a bit more editing. I found them to be exhilarating and fun.

  • The Great Ideas: A Retrospective, Volume 1

First aired on KGO-TV in San Francisco from 1953-54, this original series offers a synoptical approach to the Great Books. It cannot be too oft repeated that philosophy is everybody’s business. This compendium includes Adler’s philosophic renditions of art, democracy, emotions, freedom, justice, progress, forms of government, liberal education, and more.

Where does The Great Ideas: A Retrospective, Volume 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The content is interesting, engaging, and extremely thought provoking. If you are someone who desires to be intellectually challenged, then this little nugget is one for your collection.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The audio sounds like it is a reel to reel transfer from the original television studio audio. It has had very little editing or modern audio improvement. An increase in audio gain, normalizing of the audio, and noise reduction would do this production a world of good.

If you could give The Great Ideas: A Retrospective, Volume 1 a new subtitle, what would it be?

    Something to think about
