  • Crunch Time

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Diane Mott Davidson
    • Narrated By Barbara Rosenblat
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Colorado caterer Goldy Schulz cooks up bigtrouble as she tries to help her longtime friend and fellow chef Yolanda Garcia. When the rental house shared by Yolanda and her irrepressible aunt Ferdinanda is destroyed by arson, the pair move in with cop-turned-PI Ernest McLeod. But then Ernest is shot dead and his house is set on fire, nearly killing Goldy, Yolanda, Ferdinanda, and nine beagle puppies that Ernest had recently rescued from a puppymill. Concerned for her friends, Goldy invites them to stay with her while the sheriff’s department investigates. Yet even Goldy's house isn't safe....

Jess says: "More like slightly soggy time"
    "Not so good"

I have listen to or read all of author's books and I have decided that I'll only read the next one. the narrator made Goldie too whiny, too shrill and that was unpleasant to listen to. All the female characters sounded the same so was hard to distinguish one from another. The story plot was good and I enjoyed the story but not the narration. I have liked this narrator before but might not listen to her again.

  • The Last Man: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 57 mins)
    • By Vince Flynn
    • Narrated By George Guidall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

"Don't be last to read this one"

surprise twists, exciting action and good character development - a must read - I loved it

  • The Rope: An Anna Pigeon Mystery, Book 17

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs)
    • By Nevada Barr
    • Narrated By Joyce Bean
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Thirty-five years old, fresh off the bus from New York City, and nursing a shattered heart, Anna Pigeon takes a decidedly unglamorous job as a seasonal employee of the Glen Canyon National Recreational Area. On her day off, she goes hiking into the park never to return. Her co-workers think she’s simply moved on - her cabin is cleaned out and her things gone. Anna herself wakes up, trapped at the bottom of a dry natural well, naked, without supplies and no clear memory of how she got into this situation. As she slowly pieces together her memory, it soon becomes clear that someone has trapped her there....

karen says: "Great book, no question. But...."
    "GREAT story a must read"

The story is griping and suspenseful. I went along for the ride and loved it. I had no idea of the villain until almost the very end which is something I enjoy in a story. Anna Pigeon is one of my favorite characters and the narrator brings her and her terror to life in a convincing way.

  • Explosive Eighteen: A Stephanie Plum Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Janet Evanovich
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Before Stephanie can even step foot off Flight 127, Hawaii to Newark, she’s knee deep in trouble. Her dream vacation turned into a nightmare, and she’s flying back to New Jersey solo. Worse still, her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover. Now he’s dead, in a garbage can, waiting for curbside pickup. His killer could be anyone. And a ragtag collection of thugs and psychos, not to mention the FBI, are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying.

HappyMom says: "to quote Lula 'I really expected a better story'"
    "lots of fun as usual"
Would you listen to Explosive Eighteen again? Why?

I usually don't listen to fiction twice and won't listen to this one again but it was an easy listen

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I was waiting for the car fire and something to blow up - I also was waiting for Grandma Mazur - she is always a gas

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

toss up between Lula and Stephanie and always love Grandma

    Any additional comments?

This is an easy to listen to, light comedy that is very predictable but fun. My husband and I love to listen to her stories when we travel so we save hers until we take a trip. We always laugh and sometimes have to pull over for the laughing.

  • Echo Burning

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Lee Child
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Reacher is hitching through the heat of West Texas and getting desperate for a ride. The last thing he's worried about is exactly who picks him up.

She's called Carmen. She's a good-looking young woman, she has a beautiful little girl...and she has married into the wrong family. They're called the Greers. They're a bitter and miserly clan, and they've made her life a living hell. Worse, her monster of a husband is soon due out of prison. So she needs protection, and she needs it now.

Lawyers can't help. Cops can't be trusted. So Reacher goes home with her to the lonely ranch where nothing is as it seems, and where evil swirls around them like dust in a storm. Within days, Carmen's husband is dead - and simmering secrets send Echo, Texas, up in flames.

    Tammy says: "Not his best"
    "Story riviting, narrator so-so"

I've been listening to Reacher stories for a few weeks now. I love Reacher and am entranced by the plot of these stories. Dick Hill has been narrator on most of them. for the most part he is great but his women's voices seem to be a bit whiney on this recording. His Reacher voice is great.

  • The Defector

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Daniel Silva
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Six months after the blood-soaked conclusion of Moscow Rules, Allon is in Umbria, trying to resume his honeymoon with his new wife, Chiara, when a colleague pays him a shocking visit. The man who saved Allon's life in Moscow and was then resettled in England has vanished without a trace. British intelligence is sure he was a double agent all along, and they blame Allon for planting him.

    Paul says: "Paul"

As far as it went this is excellent book with gripping action and suspense throughout, makes you want to hear what comes next but the ending is in the middle of a thought like the Sopranos, and leaves you hanging. You must buy the next book to know what happens. this feels like the way to make more money - even though the choice belongs to the listener. I won't be buying the next one as I am offended by this ploy.

If it is not a ploy and I as the listener am to guess at the ending I won't be buying the next one because I don't like to guess, thank you. I have been cheated.
