Rob is a pop music junkie who runs his own semi-failing record store in London. His girlfriend, Laura, has just left him for the guy upstairs, and Rob is both miserable and relieved. After all, could he have spent his life with someone who has a bad record collection?

The story is great, very similar to the movie. The narrator is not very enthusiastic and the recording quality is terrible.

In hot and dusty Delhi, Puri's main work comes from screening prospective marriage partners, a job once the preserve of aunties and family priests. But when an honest public litigator is accused of murdering his maidservant, it takes all of Puri's resources to investigate. How will he trace the fate of the girl, known only as Mary, in a population of more than one billion? Who is taking pot shots at him and his prize chilli plants?

What could Tarquin Hall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This is a story of an older Indian man with old fashion beliefs and extreme arrogance. He spends the entire story bragging about in intellect and ranting about the downfall of Indian culture due to sex, drugs and Western influence.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator did a good job differentiating the voices of the many characters.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I was amused by the main character's disdain of Sherlock Holmes while the storyline is written within the same template.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I enjoyed the Wizard of Oz books and loved the stage adaption and had high hopes of this story. Sadly it was not what I expected. The heavy religious and political plot was clunky and lacking in sophistication. It was also so hard to like any of the characters; I was apathetic for most of the story.

The first time I tried reading the book I gave up about two chapters in, the next time I made it halfway. I hoped that listening to the story would make it more interesting and it did, but it still grates on my nerves.

    Any additional comments?

My annoyance was amplified by the poor audio quality of the recording. Every time I hear the narrator gulp I want to throw my ipod out the window. Even the Audible intro and announcements sound like it was recorded in someone’s bathroom.

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires?

Where does Halfway to the Grave rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

After reading the Sookie Stackhouse and Anita Blake series, I find this story to be a little derivative.

The relationship in this story is far from the sometimes bodice ripping tangles the above mentioned heroines get into, but I'm not convinced the author will not get racier as the character develops.

This character keeps me entertained, but I am not a 'fan' just yet.

What about Tavia Gilbert’s performance did you like?

Good actress, great job with the selected accents and affects of each character. I really liked her cockney voice for Bones. I have a feeling I would have been frustrated with the writing of Bones if I had read the book instead of listening the audiobook. Some of the writers choices for Brit-ing him up were a little silly. But Tavia made it work.

    Any additional comments?

In the same vein of another Vampire Slayer storyline, Kat happens to live in a paranormal hotbed... one might call it a Hellmouth.

No one wants to be a victim, but most find the event too hypnotic to ignore. In order to save their traveling carnival from bankruptcy, the Binewskis are creating their own brood of sideshow freaks. Under Al's careful direction, the pregnant Lil ingests radioisotopes, insecticides, and arsenic to make her babies "special".

    Cayora says: "Shudderingly Good!"
    "not bad, but not great"
    Overall

The author paints a very graphic picture of a family of circus freaks, describing their unique life through the eyes of the middle daughter. The culture and assumed normalcy of the family is fascinating.

However the pace of the story was sometimes difficult and I wish the time line wasn't so jerky. I also felt like some of the language was excessive, using extravagant cuss words or harsh graphic detail just to keep the reader (listener) uncomfortable.

SIx months have passed since Anita Blake has seen either Jean-Claude or Richard. Six months of celibacy. Six months of indecision. Six months of danger. For her body carries the marks of both vampire and werewolf, and until the triumvirate is consummated, all three remain vulnerable. But when a kidnapper targets innocents that Anita has sworn to protect, she needs all the help she can get. In an earth-shattering union, Anita, Jean-Claude, and Richard merge the marks - and melt into one another.

The narrator still mispronounces words, but she's starting to get the voices and reflection. It's much easier to listen.
