As the ninth century wanes, Alfred the Great lies dying, his dream of a unified England in danger and his kingdom on the brink of chaos. While his son, Edward, has been named his successor, there are other Saxon claimants to the throne - as well as ambitious pagan Vikings to the north. Uhtred, the Saxon-born, Viking-raised warrior, whose life seems to shadow the making of England itself, is torn between his vows and his desires....

What did you love best about Death of Kings?

Love the story, but the pacing of this reader is off. I prefer earlier performers who growled out the story with a rhythm and tenor of a man believable as the main character, Uthred.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Death of Kings?

    More volumes please.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Perring’s performances?

    Yes

If you could take any character from Death of Kings out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Uthred. To listen to stories.

What if you had carte blanche to fight evil? Nothing held back, nothing off the table. What would you do? For decades, the world has been fighting the drug cartels, and losing, their billions of dollars making them the most powerful and destructive organizations on earth. Until one man is asked to take charge. Paul Devereaux used to run Special Operations for the CIA before they retired him for being too ruthless. Now he can have anything he requires, do anything he thinks necessary. No boundaries, no rules, no questions asked.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

    A good yarn

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Good entertainment for the spy buff. A pleasurable listen without too much depth. Not a classic but well worth its price.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    In online vids, yes.

A successful lawyer and loving mother, Nina Bloom would do anything to protect the life she's built in New York - including lying to everyone, even her daughter, about her past. But when an innocent man is framed for murder, she knows that she can't let him pay for the real killer's crimes.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I can see how a good story turns on a convergence of events, but this one pulls convenient coincidence at will. The author gets his muse out of trouble by repeated lucky breaks so often that nothing seems real. I remember Patterson as being a good storyteller. What happened?

What three words best describe Elaina Erika Davis’s voice?

    Pleasing.
