Yes, to be glib. We are

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most..the basic concept is actually rather compelling.
Least..some of the back stories on the characters are mundane at best.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, KK does a fine job here.

What would have made DELTA better?

Not downloading it, let alone wasting my time listening to it. A silly concept, poorly executed and a weird conclusion.

What could L. Todd Wood have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Taken a different career path.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mark Christensen?

Not even Daniels, Hill or Brick could save this from the trash heap. Mark has very little intonation, and this is a shabby performance even by his standards.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed in myself for wasting these hours of my remaining life.

    Any additional comments?

Be wary. The author gets on a high philosophical horse at the end of this novel, which is rather off putting considering the poor content in the first 3/4. All around, just an awful offering and definitely NOT worth consideration.

In the remote, frozen waters of the Arctic Ocean, the high-powered and technically advanced submarine U.S.S. Montana is in peril. Adrift and in flames, the boat - and the entire crew - could be lost. The only team close enough to get to them in time is led by Marine doctor and bio-terror expert Joe Rush.

Where does White Plague rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 25. It would be easy to call this book out as somewhat formulaic, but a tension and high level of research runs through it ( with some minor bumps which are excusable to anyone but a purist.)
Of course, Ray Porter brings the story completely to life, which sure helps.

What other book might you compare White Plague to and why?

Gosh, any of the countless Arctic based submarine stories, as well as " latent disease unleashed" books. This offering combines those, with a nice conspiracy overlay AND the always dangerous Chinese Navy, to combine and deliver a highly compelling story.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Well, I did feel like Joe Ledger was in the da house, and that is not a bad thing. Porter is one of the finest audio book performers in our time, and this offering brings this to light yet again. His cadence, his laconic tone at times, and his authenticity sparkles.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The current titles says it all, and brings it all together.

    Any additional comments?

This is a highly contemporary, relevant and interesting study in science, the arctic, history, submarines, conspiracies...in other words, you name it, this one has it. Perhaps abit too much at times, it is still a fine listen, easy to digest and yet with enough substance to keep the listener entertained. Highly recommended.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Martian Race to be better than the print version?

Did not read print version, but this is a wonderful audio book notwithstanding.

What other book might you compare The Martian Race to and why?

Many of the Ben Bova Mars series, and, ( of course ) The Martian. The depictions of our nearest planetary neighbour are ( so far as I can tell ) accurate, stark and the drama of Martian life is compelling and emotionally attractive.

What about Gabrielle de Cuir’s performance did you like?

Once again, one of the bevy of up and coming female performers that Audible have attracted that take what what otherwise might be considered male territory and making it their own. Her depiction of many of the intimate relationships in this story would likely not be nearly as well portrayed by a male. Compelling.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Mars Attacks ( for real? )

    Any additional comments?

This offering is an excellent companion to the entire spectrum of audio offerings based on life on Mars. Well written and performed. Highly recommended.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listened to this book over the holidays. It was a pleasant diversion. Like other listeners have noted however, it tends to repeat itself, and is more than a little contrived at the end, but on balance, it is ok.

Has Ark Storm turned you off from other books in this genre?

Off? Not at all. Perhaps this writer, but mega storm/end of times stories are always entertaining.

What does Corey Snow bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She definitely brought Gwen to life. And Dr. Messenger. A good listen.

Was Ark Storm worth the listening time?

    So so. Mildly entertaining.

    Any additional comments?

This is not a great book, but it does educate the listener on the topic ( abit too often at times) and on balance is worth a credit...but just barely.

If you could sum up The President's Pilot in three words, what would they be?

    Fast paced.
    Creative.
    Shallow.

Have you listened to any of Thomas Block’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not that I can see, but I will again. He captured the characters well, and was consistent. Some odd pronunciations and accents at times, but on balance a job well done.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Mrs. President, we have a problem.

    Any additional comments?

This story moves very fast, and requires a great deal of suspension of disbelief. ( Truly the luckiest woman on earth! ) Technically it has good chops, a fine reader, and resolves reasonably well. I liked it somewhat more than my rating indicates, as I found some big plot holes. Technically well researched however, and a fun , if not light, listen.

But in the years since the king's mysterious death, no one has found any evidence of such a trove. Until now.

What did you like best about The Secret Crown? What did you like least?

Well, the usual cast of characters, brought to life by Mr.Hill, are nothing if not entertaining. Violent and always inward directed, and thick at times as well, but predicable. This is both good, and challenging.

Would you recommend The Secret Crown to your friends? Why or why not?

Ya gotta like the dudes to get into this one.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Dick Hill?

Sure. He sometimes sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles, but hey, who doesn't from time to time.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Home video only.

    Any additional comments?

More in the series, and not bad. Requires a stretch of belief, but on balance not bad.

What made the experience of listening to Mr. Mercedes the most enjoyable?

Gosh, where do I start? This is one of the best he has done during his recent period of activity ( 11-22-63, Revival, Mr. Mercedes ) are all stunning in content, characters and story arcs. This one is somewhat more graphic and brutal at times, but it is a tour de force in this listeners opinion.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mr. Mercedes?

The first half sets the listener up with the major characters, and they do stay with you after listening.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The crime scene investigations are impressive.

If you could rename Mr. Mercedes, what would you call it?

    Ice Cream Man

    Any additional comments?

The performance of this bears noting. Will Patton is deeply involved in the characters, and does an excellent job of being consistent with their voices and tone. Impressive throughout.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Sure. Most audio books are, this one being no exception. Interesting concept that most of us have thought about at some point in our lives. What do you do when you know the end is coming, and how do others deal as well. It certainly gives the listener pause to consider their own potential response.

What did you like best about this story?

Each story arc had it's own uniqueness. Interesting plot device here so it all runs coincidentally. Not one thing to pull out...the story needs to be viewed as an entire package as I see it.

Have you listened to any of Duane Sharp’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, and I was impressed. Had a Luke Daniel like quality. I want to hear more from him.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Perhaps.

    Any additional comments?

This one had some religous overtones that were abit off putting at first, but made sense as the story unfolded. On balance, this is a unique, powerful story, maybe abit too "small " for the subject matter at hand, but worthwhile nonetheless. Recommended, with those reservations to be considered.

What did you love best about Atmosphere?

The plot didn't clarify itself until well into the story, and it had enough twists and nuance to keep the listener fully engaged.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Atmosphere?

The nightclub scenes were remarkable in their gruesomeness, weirdness and just outright creativity.

Which character – as performed by George Kuch – was your favorite?

The bad guys were well written, but our detective hero was rather cool for his outright coolness under very stressful circumstances.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Can't but I did fire through it notwithstanding.

    Any additional comments?

This is a unique, at times graphic, intense, sci fi/horror/detective story. Nothing quite like it has come along in awhile. I recommend it with all those circumstances understood.

What did you like best about Frontera? What did you like least?

Best...the performance by both readers but especially Gabrielle. She rocks this book. Goodness, owns the emotions, the intensity ( and there is that! ) and the story.
Least is the wimpy ending, but that is subjective.

Would you recommend Frontera to your friends? Why or why not?

I would for the performances alone.

What about Gabrielle de Cuir and Stefan Rudnicki ’s performance did you like?

This story is relatively derivative, and is dated in it's technology. That said, these 2 performers bring it to life, and the characters they inhabit ( esp. Gabrielle's ) walk through the listeners lives. Stunningly good.

Could you see Frontera being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Nah. Too derivative, and too dated.

    Any additional comments?

All that said, a wonderful offering. Stefan is Mr. Mars, and his companion seems to be along for the journey. If you like Mars oriented SciFi with amazing reading, get this. Highly recommended, for the genre!
