"Enjoyed it ;-)"
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the series in general. I was a little skeptical because of the title and the cover, but the author/narrator combination works. I am pretty sure Larry is a complete gun nut because of his detailed descriptions of everything dealing with weapons, but it is interesting to see how exciting some of the characters become when talking about them :-). In any case, give it a try, definitely worth the credits.
"Good story but too much politics..."
I enjoyed the writing, concepts, and narration of the book. That being said, I know that John Ringo is a guest commentator on Fox News, but the constant political bashing does get a bit old after a while. I get it, you don't like liberals but geez... In any case, I did enjoy the book enough to get the following two books :-)
"John isn't James but not bad"
I am a huge fan of this series and have listened as Jim and James developed the characters through pen and voice. I was very disappointed to hear that James was not going to be reading this book but I figured I'd give John a chance. I went in with an open mind and glad I did. James is not John but as a stand in, he is pretty good actually. He does different voices for everyone and most match fairly close to James' interpretations of the characters. If you truly give it a chance and listen to the performance that John has put on I don't think you will be disappointed. You just have to try to go in unbiased. I know it is difficult especially if you have followed the series thus far... Just my two cents (for all that is worth). All except for the Peewee Herman voice... Extremely annoying (although I think that is what John was going for). That being said, I am very much hoping that James comes back for Cold Days.
As for the book itself, another solid step in the development of Harry. Thanks Jim! Let's just say that if James read the book I would have given it 5 stars.
