Fresh from his trip to Britain, Falco needs to re-establish his presence in Rome. A minor role in the trial of a senator entangles him in the machinations of Silius Italicus and Paccius Africanus, two real-life lawyers at the top of their trade. These notorious ex-consuls play a dangerous game, where success brings rich pickings but a mistrial or a wrong verdict entails huge financial penalties.

    Wadie says: "An Imperial Treasure"
    "Amusing"
    Overall

As always Falco is amusing and entertaining but not much action or mystery. Figured out the secret half way through.

Springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

    Zati says: "Fun and Twisted"
    "As Always"
    Overall

Thank goodness for Abercrombie a creator of real people and places unlike the usual heroic good guy fantasy schmaltz.

Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

    "Good for your walk/jog"

I have never read fantasy before but relying on the previous reviewers I bought this. I enjoyed it - I have only read the first book which appears to be mostly an introduction to the characters. The characters are well written - certainly not super human - though the plot is somewhat slow. I have now purchased the second book and look forward to a bit more plot.

Detective Elijah Baley is called to the Spacer world Aurora to solve a bizarre case of roboticide. The prime suspect is a gifted roboticist who had the means, the motive, and the opportunity to commit the crime. There's only one catch: Baley and his positronic partner, R. Daneel Olivaw, must prove the man innocent. For in a case of political intrigue and love between woman and robot gone tragically wrong, there's more at stake than simple justice.

    Yvonne says: "Refreshing"
    "Ravage of time"
    Overall

When I was 14 [many many years ago] I loved this book. It has not however stood up to the passage of time. I found its depiction of female characters tedious and adolescent. Like a teenage boys fantasy.
