  • Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free

The culture wars are over and the idiots have won. This is a veteran journalist’s caustically funny, righteously angry lament about the glorification of ignorance in the United States. The three Great Premises of Idiot America: · Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings, or otherwise moves units; anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough; "fact" is that which enough people believe. And "truth" is determined by how fervently they believe it.

    Story

We hear the term ADD a lot these days. Its important to remember the third 'D' is for disorder. Because it isn't as obvious as other disorders, sufferers of ADD are unfairly labeled and often never reach their potential. Books like this are a great help to those who have ADD, or as help understand someone who has ADD.

  • Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Rachel Maddow
    • Narrated By Rachel Maddow
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready
    Overall
    (1484)
    Performance
    (1347)
    Story
    (1341)

Rachel Maddow's Drift argues that we've drifted away from America's original ideals and become a nation weirdly at peace with perpetual war, with all the financial and human costs that entails. Sensible yet provocative, dead serious yet seriously funny, Drift will reinvigorate a "loud and jangly" political debate about how, when, and where to apply America's strength and power - and who gets to make those decisions.

Nothing adds to an audio book more than when the author does the reading personally. Rachel has written a brilliant account of our ever expanding military without revealing personal ideology. I really enjoyed it!

A teen idol at 15, an international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at 20, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences. Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last 25 years. These stories are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.

I bought this thinking it would be more about Rob's party life. Instead, it was more about his life and experiences as a young actor. I found very entertaining. Having Rob read it himself gives it a personal touch that adds to the listening experience. After finishing it, I added 4 of his movies to my Netflix queue.

From the larger, louder half of the world-famous magic duo Penn & Teller comes a scathingly funny reinterpretation of The Ten Commandments. They are The Penn Commandments, and they reveal one outrageous and opinionated atheist’s experience in the world.

I've always been a big fan of Penn and Teller. Unfortunately Penn's book is just a rambling mess that has almost nothing to do with being athiest. He thinks way to much of his own opinion. Penn I get it, you're a rich, libertarian, athiest. Now do a magic trick!
