Feminist, Dystopia, Terrifying
If you enjoy books such as Divergent, the Hunger Games, 1984, or any other dystopian future novels you will like this book. It is terrifyingly plausible and told as an intimate, personal fictional memoir.
This book will stay with me forever. The feminist in me is outraged and wants to scream. The reader in me is thrilled with the way it kept me intrigued from start to finish. Claire Danes is an outstanding narrator.
More recordings from Claire!
I can definitely relate to many of these stories as a new parent. I think Jim Gaffigan is wonderfully honest and hilarious. He perfectly captures the stress, terror, and love of parenting. It is a hilarious, yet thoughtful, book and anyone who is a parent will love it.
I loved the way Veronica Roth chose to end this series. It is realistic and appropriate for the characters and the story. However, it took much to long to get to the point. At a certain part of the book I knew what was going to happen and was just waiting for her to actually get to it. The other two books are much better paced than this one. The writing is just not up to par with the previous two in the series.
The idea of writing this mystery story from the point of view of an obviously autistic child is very intriguing. However, as an educator who works with children of all learning levels I find much of this stereotypical. Also, the plot leaves some to be desired, especially the somewhat rushed ending.
If they were looking for something that is light hearted and amusing then yes. There is not much plot and some of the stories are more amusing than others. The parts where he speaks "French" are the funniest moments.
I hated this book. I thought the audio recording with the two different narrators was nice but the story was very predictable. As soon as I heard it was "suspenseful and unpredictable" it was easy to predict what the "shocking" parts would be. There is no hero, no sympathetic character you want to root for. Both the husband and wife are despicable people. I was very disappointed in this book.
Yes. This is another great book by Veronica Roth, narrated by Emma Galvin. One wouldn't expect a young girl to be such a great narrator for so many diverse characters but she does a fabulous job.
The entire book is fantastic. Roth has done her research and created a world that seems insane, yet plausible all at the same time. She truly immerses you in this world. Even my husband likes this series.
Yes! I loved the narrator and her pacing was very suspenseful. It was a great listen on my way too and from work- I couldn't wait for the commute and hoped for traffic!
I couldn't pick one with out too many spoilers. I will say that Triss's mother becomes my favorite character.
YES! This book is exciting, entertaining, terrifying, and emotional all at the same time. It is the perfect dystopian novel. There are many others out there, but this is the perfect balance of reality and fantasy. It has just enough emotion, with out being a sappy teenaged love story.
Probably not, I found the book was pleasant but was rather uneventful. Very predictable and unemotional for a story that chronicles the German occupation during WWII. I was unable to truly connect with the characters. I have recently read "The Book Thief" which was much more emotional, harrowing, and memorable.
No, it was not quickly paced enough for me.
The voices were all nice except for the American, Marc. He sounded like a computer. I am wondering if a British actor was trying to do an American accent...didn't work.
The book give graphic, heart wrenching depictions of births in the 1930s. This is extremely interesting and well done. The rest of the story is rather predictable. It was your run of the mill historical fiction story. The performance by Anne Wittman was well done. My only complaint is that there are many references to songs (very well known songs such as Christmas carols) and she doesn't sing them, she speaks the lyrics in an awkward voice.
