A cold-blooded kidnapper has been playing a twisted game with a terrified Minnesota town. Now a respected member of the community stands accused of a startling act of evil. But when a second boy disappears, a frightened public demands to know: Have the police caught the wrong man? Is the nightmare continuing...or just beginning? As she prepares for the trial of her career, Ellen suddenly finds herself swept into a cruel contest of twisted wits.

    Story

Reader's voice was boring. Little excitement in her voice and when she tried to be a male voice it was anything but convincing. Mostly though the story line faded into the background while tid bits not relevant to the story were explored to exhaustion. At times I couldn't remember the story line. Could have done the story in 1/3 the time as most was not needed and not interesting. First time for this author and am not sure I'd try her again.

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: "You got the wrong guy". Then he says: "Get Reacher for me". And sure enough, from the world he lives in - no phone, no address, no commitments - ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. In Lee Child's astonishing thriller, Reacher's arrival will change everything - about a case that isn't what it seems, about lives tangled in baffling ways, about a killer who missed one shot - and by doing so gives Jack Reacher one shot at the truth.

I didn't realize this was a series as it was my first. However, I will now look for more of the same. Another reader said he tired of the phrase "Reacher said nothing." I have to agree. I laughed everytime I heard it just because of the other persons comments. But hey...the author could have worked a little harder to find a few different phrases. Having said that...I could manage to live with it and found the story well done, interesting and it kept my attention. Well worth the download.

Jason Steadman is a 30-year-old sales executive living in Boston and working for an electronics giant, a competitor to Sony and Panasonic. He's a witty, charismatic guy who's well liked at the office, but he lacks the "killer instinct" necessary to move up the corporate ladder. To the chagrin of his ambitious wife, it looks as if his career has hit a ceiling. Jason's been sidelined.

I like Joseph Finder each time I download one of his books and especially when Scott Brick reads them. Looking for more of the same to go with the others I listened to of his (A Company Man, High Crimes). Only problem is many of his books are only 6 or 7 hrs. long and it just isn't worth a full credit for such a short time. Other than that, I'd choose his books any time. Interesting, catchy, well read, endings not expected.

The book was "just ok." I like the author but the story went on too long and wasn't all that believable. This isn't his best. OK for a long drive but won't be one you will remember all that long.

William Bernhardt's best-selling novels featuring Oklahoma defense attorney Ben Kincaid capture the bare-knuckles reality of high-stakes criminal defense, as lofty ideals of justice clash with power, corruption, and wealth. Story

The person who was reading this book didn't have the best of voices. At times his voice could almost put me to sleep. The story was 'ok' but there were two stories going on at the same time and the author flips back and forth between the two which was, at times, confusing. It wasn't exactly a "clif hanger" but there were a few moments in the story with suspense. All in all it was an average listen and since I got it on sale I was ok with it. I have downloaded another book by the same author "Capital Threat" and I found the similarity in the titles confusing. Perhaps the author just likes to write about things related to Washington D.C., but personally, I'd like the titles not to be so much the same. After I listen to the new book, I'll have a better idea if I enjoy this author enough to try him again.

This book was somewhat hard to listen to toward the end. I kept turning it off as the end got closer and closer. It covers a very hard subject and explores all the issues having to do with the death sentence. It was moving and full of passion and honesty but still difficult to listen to as the issue is so profound.

Just like her other book....this is a total pleasure and ends much too quickly. Her voice and style are so enjoyable I could listen to her all day. Wishing there were even more in this series but alas not. Her charm, delivery, stories, character, insight and honesty make this one of the best listens I've had in a long time. Sit back...listen....dream...and enjoy!
