The first part is a bit slow, but pacing picks up and the characters develop. This is a somber look at current day Russia, through mob/soldiers eyes.
I like to preview the books my kids read and I enjoy Brandon Sanderson. Note to all readers - Sanderson is a great one book writer. He has so many series started that are not complete or even to the second book. I as fan it is disappointing to wait years for the next book. -
Anyhow - This book is well written and enjoyable. Good to see a modern day based fantasy. The Main characters are well developed. The story is a bit based on Xmen - Epic could be subbed for Mutant. The society is well done and you are transported to that world.
It is a great listen and a safe read for 9 and up. A little violent, but nothing more than a cartoon.
You know the book and series was great when you are finished you feel a sense of loss. i did with this book. This book is not life changing but it is fun and you can feel the authors mixing of current day politics.
You will need to listen to series in order. Do not skip around. Not that you will want to.
If you love magic and mystery with characters that may the journey fresh listen to this series.
The author had taken what is familiar in the magical world and put his spin on it so well it does not get old. He does this by creating fantastic characters that you pull for and also want dead. The late 1800's is a great setting for magic. This series is worth the listen and a read.
On a personal note I could have did without the "f - word". He handles the sex and violence with a deft hand. Less is more. If there was not so much profanity (there is not a ton but enough) I could have my 12 year old read this series.
I enjoy books that are longer, full of detail. This was one of those books you look forward to listening to. You find yourself running a little more or taking it to the store with you.
This series did not disappoint. The writing was fluid and the characters were were personable. The leads Hadrian and Royce could fill up several other books. You grow to like even the smaller parts, such as Magnus.
This series is worth a try.
After not being able to complete the last book I started (Gardens of the moon - o first for me) I was looking for something that I could follow with out taking notes. This book has typical races in it but the story is fun and characters are likeable and engaging.
I love longer books and detail. If you are looking for something new this book is worth a shot. Starting the next book in the series today.
The structure of this book make it stop and start from now where. While I have read reviews about this problem I thought it would be something that would prove worth while. It has not been.
I gave this book two attempts. One in normal daily situations, cutting the lawn or going for a walk. That sort of thing. I could not get in to it.
I went camping deep in the hills where I would not be disturbed. Tired and ready for a peaceful night by the fire, I was bored to tears.
choppy - slow
sure. Good narrator.
I have no idea. Maybe have a reading guide to go along with it.
This book could not be more boring. Same conventions in all his books. The back bone of Dontes' was so boring I had to force myself to keep going. I dont mind a history lesson if it is a side note, not the focus.
It was a modification of previous books. He adds a young woman here, a few old friends there , shazaam - new story.
Reader was fine.
waste of money. Find something else.
Walking in and seeing Kate on the couch in a blanket.
Scott does well. He is scott. There is not a lot of dynamic voices, but his tone is why you listen.
Did you see That?
Fun book but it got long. I love 30 hour books , but I felt like we revisited the same topics again and again in this book.
it is better than half of what I have listen to.
Loaf is the best character due to his blunt and memorable lines.
They all did fine. Please stop the whining!
Moving through time comes at a cost.
Besides scott the supporting cast was done well. You like the seal team and other operators. Stories of Bullet Bob coming to a store near you?
After so many books it is a comfort to hear him read.
This is the type of book you put on when cleaning the garage.
Scott needs a stable home life. Maybe a Mrs. Smith type that can kick some trash with him. He is getting older.
