  • Coraline

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Neil Gaiman
    • Narrated By Neil Gaiman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Coraline's family's new flat are twenty-one windows and fourteen doors. Thirteen of the doors open and close. The fourteenth is locked, and on the other side is only a brick wall, until the day Coraline unlocks the door to find a passage to another flat in another house just like her own.

Melise says: "Scary, but interesting for both adults and kids"
    "Very Entertaining"

I purchased this book for a weekend car trip with my teenagers and was worried that this book would be too childish for them. There was no need to worry. This book is quirky enough to draw kids and adults.

After Harry Potter, it is hard to find characters and worlds and books that are fun. This book gives me hope that there are many fine gems out there waiting to be found.

We did not find this book as scarey as some of the reviewers warned about. The book was strange without being too scarey.

  • The Witch of Blackbird Pond

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By Elizabeth George Speare
    • Narrated By Mary Beth Hurt

Orphaned Kit Tyler knows, as she gazes for the first time at the cold, bleak shores of Connecticut Colony, that her new home will never be like the shimmering Caribbean islands she left behind. In her relatives' stern Puritan community, she feels like a tropical bird that has flown to the wrong part of the world, a bird that is now caged and lonely.

Susan says: "Great characters - a delightful listen!"
    "Enjoyable Classic"

This is a very enjoyable look into what some of the "witch" activity in our country's early days may have looked like.

The Narrator has a calm soothing voice which made this an especially easy book to listen to.

  • On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Stephen King

The prolific, perennially best selling author recounts his early life and writing struggles, gives advice on the crucial aspects of the writing art, and talks about his much-publicized, near-fatal accident.

    Bill says: "Excellent!"
    "Entertaining and Educational"

I had not read a single Steven King novel before this one, I will now have to read some.

The tone and language of this book is so comfortable that it is like talking with the author over coffee at Starbucks. Much of the book is biographical in nature, but King's talent at turning a phrase makes even the long narratives educational. I constantly wondered how he came up with certain phrases, and laughed out loud in several places.

If you want to write, this has lots of great tips and even an exercise. If you just want to be entertained, Steven King is a great story teller.
