Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

If you could sum up A Fistful of Collars in three words, what would they be?

    Terrific Terrific Terrific

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

    Chet of course

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

She's in a dead-end job and is involved with the wrong man; she can feel herself being drawn into darkness, with horrific consequences. With nowhere to go, she finds herself on the run. There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

What disappointed you about First Grave on the Right?

The story was boring. The author seemed to select themes from other great mystery books and mash them all together. It didn't work. The story was boring and uneventful.

Has First Grave on the Right turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No, just to the author.

Which character – as performed by Lorelei King – was your favorite?

No character was my favorite but it wasn't her fault.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from First Grave on the Right?

    All!

    Any additional comments?

The story was like when you put too many ingredients in a soup.....
All of the elements separately are fine but when the author mixed them together it was chaotic and lacked any bite.

The author included crazy friends/relatives, ghosts that should have been funny, love interests (the erotica added in was just silly), and the 'powers' that the main character had were woven in throughout.

Nothing about this story made the reader care about the characters.

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Julia Whelan?

Julia was okay so I might try another narrated by her. Nora Robert's writing has been up and down so I would need a good deal of convincing to try another.

Would you recommend The Witness to your friends? Why or why not?

I probably wouldn't recommend it. It was an improvement over what she has been writing lately, but a long way to go to get back to some of her earlier writing.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Julia Whelan's narration was fine. The book's ending was predictable.

Did The Witness inspire you to do anything?

    nothing inspiring
