From humble beginnings and a narrow escape from death in childhood, William Marshall steadily rises through the ranks to become tutor in arms to the son of King Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Based on fact, this is the story of William Marshal, the greatest knight of the Middle Ages.

This is an excellent book. I couldn't stop listening to it yet hated to see it end. This is my first experience with this author and my next purchase will be the continued saga of William! I would greatly recommend it.

Best-selling author Monica McCarty transports listeners to the 14th-century Scottish highlands in this dazzling novel. Warrior Tor MacLeod is picked by Robert the Bruce to lead the fight against English rule. Despite Tor’s rigid disposition and devotion to his craft, his new bride is determined to warm his heart.

I always enjoy a good historical novel! The only thing I did not like was the graphic detail of the bedroom scenes, which I was not expecting! I am now listening to book two in this series. I am always interested in stories of the Scotts and Irish fighting the English in this era. The English were such insecure bullies! I don't know why they couldn't have just let them live in peace. I found this book hard to stop listening to when I got home. I only listen to my books in the car. So I would sit in the garage until a scene was finished! I hope book two is just as good. So far it is...

In 1002, 15-year-old Emma of Normandy crosses the Narrow Sea to wed the much older King Athelred of England, whom she meets for the first time at the church door. Thrust into an unfamiliar and treacherous court, with a husband who mistrusts her, stepsons who resent her and a bewitching rival who covets her crown, Emma must defend herself against her enemies and secure her status as queen by bearing a son.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to this story in the era of Normans, Danes and England in the years from 1001 - 1004. I couldn't stop listening to it once I started. I just came back to see if there was a sequel because of the abrupt ending and didn't find any other books by this author. I'm hoping she has one in the works! The narrator did an excellent job. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical novels or who just loves a good read with a bit of mystery and intrigue!

The most gorgeously theatrical of all Dickens's novels, Nicholas Nickleby follows the delightful adventures of a hearty young hero in 19th-century England. Nicholas, a gentleman's son fallen upon hard times, must set out to make his way in the world. His journey is accompanied by some of the most swaggering scoundrels and unforgettable eccentrics in Dickens's pantheon.

I love to listen to the stories that Charles Dickens wrote. I've tried to read them and find it hard to hold my attention so I decided to try listening to them. That was the key for me! I've listened to all that I can find! Nicholas Nickleby is such a likeable fellow. Anyone will enjoy this story.

With swordfights and romance, adventure and treachery set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, this is the book that made Sabatini famous. Andre-Louis Moreau has good prospects as a young lawyer, but an unfair duel with the ruthlessly cruel Count de La Tour d'Azyr leaves Andre-Louis' best friend dead and Andre-Louis himself a fugitive from the King's justice. While incognito, he becomes both a wildly popular actor and a firebrand of the Revolution.

What did you love best about The Red Queen?

I love learning about English history and how the characters might have lived and felt. It is so much harder for me to 'like' the Red Queen, but I'm sure that is the point. She is so religiously deceived and whiney! I'm only half way through the first part so I may form another opinion by the time I am finished with the entire book. She is an integral part of this series and in the Cousins War so I am very curious to see how this all plays out. She does have the heir to the throne after all so it should get very interesting!

What made the experience of listening to White Queen the most enjoyable?

I love historical novels and this one has exceeded my expectations! I started listening to this then saw the mini-series on Starz and ordered it so I could watch the mini-series while I am listening to the book series! Listening to the books while watching the show is helpful so you can identify the characters and have a better knowledge of the storyline. I have to fill my husband in with some details while the show is on or afterwards so I am glad of the books. I am listening to the Red Queen now. The Starz mini-series is a combination of both books. I would highly recommend this book and would purchase it again!
