Of course, the successful film brought this book (20+ years old) back into print and its a good complement to the film as it is far different, with more detail into exactly HOW Frank got away with matters and far less on the FBI "Javert" who pursued him. Still, we all paid for what Frank did, in terms of higher prices, Frank relied on the willingness to be kind of total strangers so his 6 months of cruel treatment in France didn't concern me too much. Still excellent and highly recommended.

Month after month, my subscription to Audible allowed me to take one book (which I always did) and one subscription, which I never did. Nothing of interest. Wall Street Journal and NY Times...too truncated with chopped up stories, and nothing off the Arts pages.

At last, my favorite print magazine, is now on audio. I have subscribed in print since 1987, yet "never get around" to many of the articles and nearly ALL of the fiction. At last...like poor Burgess Merideth in the famed Twilight Zone episode, "time enough at last".

The articles are easy to skip through (at least on Ipod) as while there is no (that I am aware of) indexing, the narrators alternate between male and female, so its easy to skip ahead..go too far, and then just backtrack a little. They don't read all articles, but all articles read are unabridged.

I am working on the current issues' fiction while commuting, a story I would have missed in print.

I shy away from translated works (was this not first published in French?) as you are at the mercy (or merci!) of the translator, but not so here...excellent adaptation and reading. As a time buff myself, I should have seen the ending coming, but did not, and was totally enthralled. The descriptions of Victorian era USA are worth the entire book. A great eye-opener for those of us (40+!!) who approached this work only from the Mike Todd film of the '60s....much more to it than that. Read and enjoy.
