Newly discharged from the Marines after World War II, Scotty Bowers arrived in Hollywood in 1946. Young, charismatic, and strikingly handsome, he quickly caught the eye of many of the town's stars and starlets. He began sleeping with some himself, and connecting others with his coterie of young, attractive, and sexually free-spirited friends.

Ugh. I am a huge fan of memoirs and love classic nostalgic Hollywood tales but I suffered through about 2 hours of this boring and gross memoir before turning it off and wishing for my 20 bucks back. There was no charm to what little I listened to and I saw none on the horizon. If I had to hear about one more no name hair stylist to the star "sucking this guy off" I was going to hurl. I am sure there is an audience for this book but if you are a fan of books like Garry and Penny Marshall's and old Hollywood type memoirs this is NOT the book for you.

Official Book Club Selection is Kathy Griffin unplugged, uncensored, and unafraid to dish about what really happens on the road, away from the cameras, and at the star party after the show. (It's also her big chance to score that coveted book club endorsement she's always wanted. Are you there, Oprah? It's me, Kathy.)

There are alot of authors out there who should farm out the reading of their books. This is NOT one of them. I don't even watch Kathy's show nor have I seen any of her stand up but I absolutely love this book. I have listened to it over and over again. It's not a straight comedy routine. This book is about growing up, struggling to make it and some scary plastic surgery story. The reading is entertaining and engaging and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys memoirs and humor!

Raised up from poverty by a determined single mother, gifted and beautiful twin sisters Christa and Cara Parravani were able to create a private haven of splendor and amusement that they shared between themselves. They earned their way into a prestigious college, established careers as artists (a photographer and a writer, respectively), and entered young marriages. But plagued by their father's early rejection of them and further damaged by being raped as a young woman, Cara veered into depression, drugs, and a shocking early death.

I am a huge memoir fan and have listened to a bunch. While I found the story interesting I was distracted by the monotone reading. There was no character or inflection to give life to the words and I wish I would have just bought the book and read it.

In this irresistible memoir, the New York Times best-selling author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize Anna Quindlen writes about looking back and ahead - and celebrating it all - as she considers marriage, girlfriends, our mothers, faith, loss, all the stuff in our closets, and more. Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake is filled with the sharp insights and revealing observations that have long confirmed Quindlen’s status as America’s laureate of real life.

In her hilarious New York Times best seller You’ll Never Blue Ball in This Town Again, Heather McDonald recounted her adventures as an unwilling virgin in Hollywood. Now happily married with three wonderful kids, she shows that life as a grown-up - even a pretend grown-up - has its challenges. Heather’s a working mom with parents who live next door, a sister who keeps asking for one of her still-fertile eggs, and friends who are up to more hijinks than even Heather can handle.

Will someone please tell me why writers insist on reading their own material when there are trained professionals that will make their work sound a million times better? (I know...money!) I think this book would have been entertaining but Heather McDonald's reading was distracting. Her reading is monotone and hesitant. She trips over words and pauses at odd moments making it difficult to follow along with her stories. Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch and Rob Lowe are examples of writers who are able to convey their work in a manner that has made me re listen to every one of their books. Heather McDonald's is not. My advice is to read this one.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I purchased this much hyped book expecting a lot more. It was interesting and kept me listening until it got so convoluted I couldn't (and really didn't care to) follow it any longer. I am a big proponent of the fact that life is too short to listen to or read any book that doesn't hold your interest and with this one I didn't get past the first download.

For fashion journalist Lauren (“LoLo”) Scruggs, a short flight to look at Christmas lights turned into a nightmare when she was struck by the plane’s spinning propeller blades. As Lauren was rushed to the hospital, fighting for her life, the world watched in shock and horror. Several major surgeries and thousands of prayers later, Lauren was still alive. But she had suffered brain trauma and lost her left hand and left eye. Some thought that this would be the end of everything for her, a beautiful young woman working in an industry focused completely on appearance. They were wrong.

I love memoirs and really enjoy listening to people triumph over daunting odds. The "teaser" for this book tells about the moments leading up to Lolo's accident and then leaves you wanting more and I was excited to hear her story. I am not against religion but I am not Christian and would prefer not to listen to Christian inspirational books. After about 2 chapters in which every person talks about Jesus Christ, religion and going back to her parents religious history and how they met I knew this wasn't the book for me. I know there is an amazing story and I really enjoy her blog but it was too much religion for me. I hope this review doesn't offend anyone and I respect everyone's religion and if you are a Christian or very religious you would probably really enjoy this book.

Two sisters. Two voices. One Heart.

The mystery of "Magic Man." The wicked riff of "Barracuda." The sadness and beauty of "Alone." The raw energy of "Crazy On You." These songs, and so many more, are part of the fabric of American music. Heart, fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson, has given fans everywhere classic, raw, and pure badass rock and roll for more than three decades. As the only sisters in rock who write their own music and play their own instruments, Ann and Nancy have always stood apart - certainly from their male counterparts but also from their female peers.

Kayleigh Towne is gorgeous with a voice that is taking her to the heights of the country pop charts. Her hit single "Your Shadow" puts her happily in the spotlight, until an innocent exchange with one of her fans leads Kayleigh into a dark and terrifying realm. The fan warns, "I'm coming for you," and soon accidents happen and people close to Kayleigh die. Special Agent Kathryn Dance must use her considerable skills at investigation and body language analysis to stop the stalker.

Being a huge fan of the murder mystery genre and reading/listening to hundreds in my lifetime I was very disappointed with the story. I have read Mr. Deaver before and find him to be a smart, engaging writer. The character's actions were simplistic and not believable and I found the actions of the police and Agent Dance so laughable that I actually went back to check if there was a co author. Jeffrey Deaver has many books that are worth your while. This is not one of them.

In her delightful and moving memoir, Sissy Spacek writes about her idyllic, barefoot childhood in a small East Texas town, with the clarity and wisdom that comes from never losing sight of her roots. Descended from industrious Czech immigrants and threadbare southern gentility, she grew up a tomboy, tagging along with two older brothers and absorbing grace and grit from her remarkable parents, who taught her that she could do anything.
