Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

I read this book and "War and Rememberance" years ago. I have always hoped it would become available on Audible. I was not disappointed. I am really perplexed that anyone could find a reason to score this book below 5 stars in any area. Pariseau makes the story really pop!!! I can't wait for "War and Rememberance" to be available and I hope Pariseau once again is the narrator. Thank you Audible!

This was my first Laura Kinsale book and I loved it. I read the print version and then listened to the Audible version. Both were excellent. The narration is wonderful. One of the best historical romances. I hope to see more of her books offered by Audible. Right now it appears only three are available?

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a very entertaining listen even if you are not a fan of the vampire genre or end of the world as we know it stories. I am looking forward to the second book. I recommend this book to anyone with a long car trip in their future!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the story took many twists and turns and kept me guessing.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

More than one narrator brought extra interest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

That would not be possible unless you are an insomniac! This is a long listen. If the story takes a twist that you don't like please keep listening. You may be in for a surprise or two.

This wonderful series opens with the back drop of the Wars of the Roses with the marriage between Eleanor Morland and a scion of the influential house of Beaufort. It is a union which establishes the powerful Morland dynasty and in the succeeding volumes of this rich tapestry of English life, we follow their fortunes through war and peace, political upheaval and social revolution, times of pestilence and periods of plenty, and through the vicissitudes which afflict every family - love and passion, envy and betrayal, birth and death, great fortune and miserable penury.

I have now listened to 3 books in this series. What a fun time. The series will provide historical fiction lovers with hours of good listening. So far the stories are not "gummy" with ridiculous, sticky romantic writing. There is enough romance blended with ficticious events to develop a very good story that holds the listeners' attention. If you enjoy well developed fictional characters mixed with actual historical people and events this is the series for you. The listener can get a birds eye view of Britsh history without feeling bogged down. I hope Audible will provide the entire series for us to enjoy as I will pruchase all of them without hesitation.

In this best-selling novel, Patrick D. Smith tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The story opens in 1858, when Tobias MacIvey arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life, and ends in 1968 with Solomon MacIvey, who realizes that the land has been exploited far beyond human need.

I really enjoyed this book. Every aspect of it is top quality. The story is very well developed and the characters are people that you begin to believe you really know personally. I did not know much about Florida history during the period that is covered in the story. I liked learning some new things while caught up in a fascinating saga. At first I thought the narration was going to be a problem but either the narrator improved while reading or I just got used to the voice.

This is the worst book I have ever "tried" to listen to and I am so sorry I wasted my valuable credits. I read other reviews and ratings and so I trusted them for a good book. NOT! I tried to be patient with all the smut for 3 solid chapters and then gave it up.Unless you really enjoy that sort of thing do not bother with this listen. There was not enough substance to the story and character development to make me willing to wade and sort through the rest of it. I will delete this one from my library.

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

I have been an avid Audible listener since the company started. I long ago lost track of my number of listens. Some have been dismal, some just OK and many excellent and entertaining. I must say this one goes beyond my expectations! I owned it for several years and just did not get into listening. Then recently I started to listen again and was thrilled. This book made me laugh and cry and really care about the characters. The narration is more than awesome. Give yourself an hour of time into this and you will be so pleased!

History has all but forgotten.... In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown. Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next best-selling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write. But then she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction....

I completely enjoyed listening to this one! Nothing too deep but just fun to listen to at the beach or while knitting my afgan for next winter. I think the narrator did a good job and certainly pulled off the Scots. I hope Audible will be able to provide more from this author. I know she has other work published. If you enjoy Scotland, a bit of mystery, some romance and a step back in time this is the audible listen for you!

I almost gave up on this listen after the first hour. I am so glad I didn't because the book suddenly took off and I stayed awake all night just to see what would happen next! The story is so well written that you will feel yourself a part of the adventure. I even caught myself scratching imagined insect bites. Hope Davis did a fine job as narrator. Well worth slugging through the first hour.
