"If You're a Ken Follett Fan It's a Must Read"
I enjoyed this book a lot its very typical of all of Ken Follett books he is an epic story teller. I think I enjoyed Fall of Giants more though. Having been 2 years since that book came out it would have been nice just to have a clearer understanding of the characters genealogy. However IF you have not read Fall of Giants this book is still one you can pick up and enjoy without having read the previous book. I don't think the book focused enough on the holocaust but I think that is a point not many Germans from my understanding knew what was going on at that time.
"Good Detective Story"
I'm a fan of the British and Swedish tv series Wallander and reading the description of this book reminded me of the show and I was right it was similar. The story takes place in Norway and the only complaint I really had was the character names were Norwegian and unfamiliar (even from someone who is Minnesotan) so it was hard to keep track of who was who. The narrator's voice took a while to get use to. The story was a little predictable but then twists and turns happen and you aren't sure what you thought was going to happen will happen or not.
"Starts slow but keep with it"
The book starts our very slow and not until you're halfway through do you start to realize the plot is moving. Its not until the last couple of hours did I figure it out and even then had some good surprises. My favorite Kate Morton book so far!
"Complex story with good characters!"
I was surprised how much I liked this book and thought it was going to be some “Chic Lit” type book. It’s a much deeper and complex story than I expected with some wit and humor. I love how the connections of the characters develop and it was a fast pace book so I didn’t feel like the story was dragging on and on. The narrator was excellent (however at times some of his characters sounded like Alec Baldwin which was a tiny bit distracting).
"I felt like it was a bad made for TV Movie"
I didn't get very far into this book at first I thought it was the narrartor but then realized it was the writing. I'm certainly no author but this just seemed like a script for a bad made for TV movie.
"Yuck!"
If you've read Gillian Flynn books before you won't be surprised to know how miserable and unlikeable the characters are but I think this book takes the prize of most miserable people. The book is filled with MEAN GIRLS which at times can take you back to junior high. EVERY character in this book is unlikeable. It doesn't help that the story is very predictable from the start.
"My favorite from the series"
I think this is my favorite of the Dublin Murder Squad series. I really couldn't see how everything was going to turn out at the end and tie together. Some surprises along the way and a great narrator make this credit worthy.
"I really wanted to like this book"
I really wanted to like this book, but alas; I did not. This type of book is the kind of book I usually go crazy for (I love British Historical drama and I love America pioneer life so I thought it would be perfect. I thought it will get better so I kept listening.but it just became more disappointing!
First, the story is not very convincing, or believable but only continue cause you want to know the secrets. Once its revealed you've already put the pieces together and know everything (granted there is 1 twist I didn't see coming). Second, the characters are irritating, especially the sisters. Third, the story is repetitive and just long and paced out badly. The narrator was good except her male voices were very annoying.
"Another Dark Twisted Tale from Gillian Flynn"
Like most of the books I've read by Gillian Flynn this one is also very dark and twisted with characters you really don't like and have a hard time attaching too yet the story is enough to keep me reading and wanting to know what happens next.
THE BEST PART OF THIS AUDIOBOOK IS JULIA WHELAN her perfect narration of Amy is exceptional!!! I was a fan of hers as a teen in the show Once & Again (aired on ABC early 2000s)
The couple things I disliked about the book was a bit of the crass language but I understand that is what sets a tone so I can get over it quickly. But the ending wasn't what I wanted yet with all the twists and well played plot I will forgive Ms. Flynn for the ending.
"Very Dark & Troubling story"
Very dark, raw with unlikeable characters and a some what convoluted plot that will leave you a bit depressed but you won't be able to stop listening. Credit worthy.
