Margaret Atwood is acknowledged as one of the foremost writers of our time. In Moral Disorder, she has created a series of interconnected stories that trace the course of a life and also the lives intertwined with it, those of parents, of siblings, of children, of friends, of enemies, of teachers, and even of animals. As in a photograph album, time is measured in sharp, clearly observed moments.

Every Atwood book I have ever read has left me with a lasting impression. While reading the books I had a sense that I had to plunge through the pages before I lost interest and then near the ending I am forces to look at my life and myself in order to accept the inevitability of what Ms. Atwood is saying.

It is a letdown but I am sure that this is what she wants to do.

The author is real life and I will continue to read her books
Now that I am finished this book I can say that she continues to leave me with lasting impressions of the reality of life and death.

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

From the best-selling author of How We Decide comes a sparkling and revelatory look at the new science of creativity. Shattering the myth of muses, higher powers, even creative “types”, Jonah Lehrer demonstrates that creativity is not a single gift possessed by the lucky few. It’s a variety of distinct thought processes that we can all learn to use more effectively. Lehrer reveals the importance of embracing the rut, thinking like a child, daydreaming productively, and adopting an outsider’s perspective.

This was an eye opener into the history of China and the changes in government that impacted the lives of the Chinese. A very good insight into the beliefs and values of these people as well as their strengths in facing their many trials.

Not like a history book but very informative. I was drawn into the book immediately.

I listened to this book on a road trip and I was so entranced by the story and the reader that I missed two turn=offs on the highway. I was on the edge of my seat uring most of my trip and I found myself becoming emotionally involved with all of the characters, including wishing that the "Nasty characters" would get what they deserved. I highly recommend this book.

The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

I have just downloaded the final book in this series. I chose the abridged versdion this time because in the third book I found myself fast-forwarding through the love-making and very descriptive scenes. I loved the first three books for their historical value and for the characters. This applies to the first, second and third of her series with Jamie and Claire.

In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

    "A World Without End"
    Overall

This book is one of the best of historical fiction that I have ever read. Pillars of the Earth also meets this standard.
The author makes it easy to "get into" the minds and feelings of the characters, and I found myself having reactions to their life situations. For example, when an injustice is being done to one character, I became very angry.
I could hardly wait for my reading times to arrive and I was sad to come to the end of the book.

Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

I listened to this book as a favor to a friend. I was not excited about it because I thought that the contents of the book would be like all of the "self-help" books I have read in the past.

I was very surprised to find that this book contains many profound ideas. I will be purchasing the hard copy so that I may refer to it.

The author pulls from many sources including the major religions but he never suggests that one might be better than another.

The saga begins in tribal, pre-Christian Ireland during the reign of the fierce and mighty High Kings at Tara, with the tale of two lovers whose travails cleverly echo the ancient Celtic legend of Cuchulainn. From that stirring beginning, Rutherfurd takes the reader on a powerfully imagined journey through the centuries. Through the interlocking stories of a memorable cast of characters we see Ireland through the lens of its greatest city.

This book could have been rated as 5 if it had not moved from generations so quickly. I had difficulty keeping up with the characters.

Perhaps if I were reading rather than listening, this would not have been an issue.

Welcome to the hilarious, strange, elegiac, outrageous world of David Sedaris. In Naked, Sedaris turns the current mania for the memoir on its proverbial ear, mining the exceedingly rich terrain of his life, his family, and his unique worldview, a sensibility at once take-no-prisoners sharp and deeply charitable.
