I'm a big fan of si-fi, but I'm finding that a love for mysteries budding up in me. I also like a lot of nonfiction.

Although Stoker did not invent the vampire, the novel's influence on the popularity of vampires has been singularly responsible for many theatrical, film and television interpretations since its publication. Required listening for any fan of the genre!

Dracula was written in a rather unique style. It is actually a series of journal entries and letters. I found it weird at first, but later I got to like. It allows the author to present the story from different point of view and make it clear from what point of view it is from. It also encouraged me to keep up my journal. (Nothing about vampires in mine though.) It is also great to see where all the popular views of vampires comes from. I was a little disappointed about the climax. Dracula just laid there, and he didn't seem like he was the enemy, just a target. I still recommend it to any one who is into vampires. It is what set the standard.

The performance by Marc Nelson was not very accurate. I like to read along in a lot of my books, as I did on this one, and for that reason he made a lot of mistakes. I know that a most readers make mistakes, but not anywhere near as many as this one did. In fact he skipped over entire lines in his reading.

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of. Now, the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages.

In this book all three of our young start off all feeling trapped in one way or the other, and this gives them bad attitudes towards the Aes Sedai and, in turn, the parts they play in the pattern. They all get separated and take their own roads through the story. All the fighting and refusing of these parts they play make a lot of conflict. This brings out changes in the characters and they start growing up real quick.

In this book the the charters split up making multiple plot lines. These plot lines tend to get more complicated in later books, making the story hard to follow at times, but it also adds dimension to the story. If you like seeing pieces of a story fall in place, then you'll like this whole series.

    Story

This book is the beginning of a very long series called the "The Wheel of Time", and it has become one to the greatest collections of fantasy books in the world. I've heard it being compared to "Lord of the Rings" time and time again, and with good reason. These books are at the same level. "The Eye of the World" start out as a lot of typical books. That being, a mentor goes into a small town, go-no-where town and takes one of the boys there and basically says, "If you go with me, you will save the world." In this book; however, there are three boys, albeit, Rand Al'thor is more so than the other two. There is also the possibility that the world will be destroyed in stead of saved. In addition, there is no love between the mentor and the three boys like there would normally be in other stories. Two of the women also get caught up in the stories from the very beginning and they also become very important parts of the salvation/destruction of the world. Before the end of the book, all three boys end up being cursed in some form or fashion that actually helps them in their individual parts in later books. There are a lot of things that don't make scene in the story, but those things become clearer in later novels.

Volume two in this series consists of one novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and two collections of short stories, which include "Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" and "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" (a total of 23 stories). These creations by Doyle represent the finest work of his Holmes series, and certainly the most famous.

I once heard is said that the best characters are the ones with flaws. Sherlock Holmes is one of the best examples of that. He is eccentric. He is so obsessed with facts and practicality that he seem heartless. Ironically he is willing to go above and beyond for people who are more deserving of he services. Even to the point that he will of letting the criminal go free if the crime was, at least in Sherlocke's opinion, justifiable. He is also a bit egotistical, but is willing to set his ego aside and admit he was wrong at times. Worst of all, he is constantly criticizing Watson for his lack of deduction as well as other issues, but Watson is the only person Sherlock Holmes ever loved. For those of you who believe relationships are important in a story , the relationship between Holmes and Watson is the perfect example of how true love between men can happen without sexual attraction.

First appearing in print in 1890, the character of Sherlock Holmes has now become synonymous worldwide with the concept of a super sleuth. His creator, Conan Doyle, imbued his detective hero with intellectual power, acute observational abilities, a penchant for deductive reasoning and a highly educated use of forensic skills. Indeed, Doyle created the first fictional private detective who used what we now recognize as modern scientific investigative techniques.

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

I haven't read much of Stephen King, but of what little I have read from him I really liked, so I was excited to see that he had written a series (I really like series). This book really seemed a bit dogmatic. It is about a gunslinger who is meant to enforce the law. He is an antihero that can't seem to keep anyone close to him from dieing by his own hand. In the end you find that he is being taunted to find this Dark Tower and he is meant to be alone. It is unpredictable which I like, but the character is so miserable, that it makes him really hard to care about, and for that reason you really don't care about what happens to him.

I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world---and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker...and this one decided that the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Th wheel of time series is truly a great series. It has a lot of every thing. Action. conspiracy. Romance. The list goes on. If there is only one thing wrong with it is that it also a lot of characters. This makes it hard to keep up with what is going on, but if you can keep up then you are always listening on and on. Great for long road trips my yourself.

True leadership isn't a matter of having a certain job or title. In fact, being chosen for a position is only the first of the five levels every effective leader achieves. To become more than "the boss" people follow only because they are required to, you have to master the ability to invest in people and inspire them. To grow further in your role, you must achieve results and build a team that produces. You need to help people to develop their skills to become leaders in their own right. And if you have the skill and dedication, you can reach the pinnacle of leadership....

I must confess that I got this book for the wrong reasons. The synopsis that described the "position leader" was a perfect description of my boss, but I'm still glad I read/listened to it. I used to own my own business, and it was poor leadership that brought it under. I see a lot of the mistakes that I made in the past, and now I know what to do differently.
