When a plague strikes, Anchorage becomes a deadly trap for its citizens. The only two land routes out of the city are cut, forcing people to fight or die as the infection spreads. Danny and Jules, just children, witness the beginning stages of the pestilence. Neil watches helplessly from his office cubicle as Midtown is ravaged. Dr. Caldwell attempts to flee the madness of Providence Hospital, the epicenter of the outbreak. The lives and survival of these few become intertwined in the aftermath of the onslaught.

Never judge a book by its cover... Or unimaginative title. I am pleased to say that the title is the biggest grievance I have with the book. The title put me off as so trite that I doubted the substance of the book. I was wrong!

The novel addresses the outbreak moments of a zombie apocalypse, setting the stage for sequels. Schubert does this with finesse and gives enough science to allow those who care to nit-pick to have the bread crumbs to get there on their own, but not so many as to allow those who have medical backgrounds to begin chirping over inconsistencies. Masterfully done. His treatment of the rest of the subject matter is equally masterful.

Character development is okay, sometimes contrived; however, forgivable due to the tense nature of the predicament the characters all find themselves in. The action is well paced. I have purchased the sequel. Happy reading.

The first of the acclaimed Vatta's War books, the exciting military science fiction series that features a swashbuckling spaceship-captain heroine who mixes commerce with combat.

I won't lie. I got this as part of an Audible sale... and I am awefully glad that I did. The Story gets off on the right foot and hits the ground running; with the hard-luck case main character being affable and endearing.

Elizabeth Moon loves Murphy's law. The Main character doesn't. Moon paint's an "Eve" (video game MMO) like galaxy with a lush cultural and economic backdrop. The story never becomes tedious or boring. I loved it and have recommended it to several people, and now I put fingers to keys and recommend this to you. A great intro to Science Fiction if you're new to the genre.

Narrator Cynthia was a strong, sympathetic, and persistant voice that was ideal for the lead character and her tribulations. Well chosen and performed.

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

With almost a Clancy-like loquasciousness Martin takes us on an enthralling and immersive journey through his world. For both old a new fans alike there will be hours of devoted listening that will await you with delight.

My personal first exposure of this series was thanks to HBO's stunning adaptation of the works currently airing, and as such I was kind of taken aback by Ray Dotrice's performance initially. However, as soon as I detatched my perception from the HBO ideal, I truly began a wonderous experiance. The narration is akin to a maedter's teachings in the world of Martin and as such I found the story-telling even more compelling with this backdrop.

The characters are flushed out exceptionally well and the political machinations are cunning. Martin is crass where he needs to be and pious and sensible all where appropriate. Nothing is done without purpose. A brilliant piece of craft.

Written before Alexander the Great was born, this Chinese treatise on war has become one of the most influential works on the subject. Read widely in the east since its appearance 2,500 years ago, The Art of War first came to the west with a French Jesuit in 1782. It has been studied by generals from Napoleon to Rommel, and it is still required reading in most military academies of the world.

Use of the two narrators in the manner that they where used in was extremely insightful. This decision made the understanding and following the continuity measurably easier. As this is a non-fiction work, the "story" mark is really a non-issue, as such I graded on the quality of the matterial contained within. If you have an appreciation for stratagem and tactics then you must indulge in thi book. Even through the monotone dictation of the narrators. A must read/listen.
