In The Lonely Polygamist, Udall pens a tragicomic tale starring Golden Richards - who despite having four wives and 28 children, hasn’t quite found fulfillment in life. Like other men in the midst of a mid-life crisis, Golden feels as though he’s drowning. His wives squabble amongst themselves, and he hardly has time for all his children - least of all the 11-year-old who’s taken a keen interest in explosives.

    Story

This was really a good story. I really enjoyed it and found that I miss the character, Golden, now that I'm finished.
I do want to note, because I don't think the author was very clear, that this is not a story about Mormons. Mormons don't practice polygamy and haven't for a couple of hundred years. While there are some words and phrases that the author uses that are similar to that of the Mormon faith, it's important to note that these people are NOT Mormon. Being Mormon myself, I cringed every time such a reference was made. Polygamist sects are breakaway groups and not affiliated with the Mormon faith in any way.

Other than that, the story line was great and entertaining. Great characters and funny, realistic situations. You don't always get what you want, but be grateful for what you have and hold it dear. That's a great way to sum up the lessons of this book!

I wasn't prepared to love this book so much, based on the description. I gave it a go and I'm SO glad that I did! I loved the main character, Nickel, and I did NOT want this book to end! I had a very lengthy car ride that I needed to stay alert for, and it was perfect! The suspense didn't end and the characters are great. I wish so much that this book was a lengthy series so that I could just listen and listen to Nickel's stories.
If the author ever reads these.... PLEASE! Write more Nickel novels!

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

I can honestly say that I wish that EVERY book was like this book! You truly feel like you are part of the character's lives and you love them, even though they may be making poor life choices, you root for them and hope, hope, hope, that they turn out alright in the end. At first, I was very wary of such a long book, just that I may get tired of the same storyline and characters after a while. Really, though, I never wanted it to end. To me, the subject of the book just didn't sound that interesting to me, so even though it had so many GREAT reviews, I hesitated for months before I broke down and bought it. I'm SO grateful that I did! I loved this book and got SO much accomplished while I listened, I couldn't turn my iPod off and couldn't just sit and listen. :)
Please... if you are on the fence about this book, let go and fall off and enjoy every minute of this amazing story! You won't regret it.

I've been having a tough time finding a few books that keep me intrigued. I've actually stopped listening to several lately, but I was so happy to have found this book! I loved it! I loved the story, the suspense and the action.I didn't want to pause it and I got a great deal of work done around my house through this book! Though I did guess the villain, it was still a great story, and the villain got just what they deserved!

I HAVE to give credit to the reader, as well. He was awesome! His voices were great and entertaining. VERY well done!

I'm recommending this to all of my friends, have a great listen!

Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver. Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own....

I have really been having bad luck lately finding a book that keeps my interest and that I find myself not being able to tear myself away from. FINALLY I've found one! I absolutely LOVED this book! So much that I'm rushing back to Audible to see if this author has any more like it. The story was really great, funny beyond what I could have imagined and a sweet love story to boot! I don't usually enjoy love stories, so I was happy to like this one. I could recommend this to ANYone. The only downside for me was the references to sex, as I would have loved my daughters to listen to it, too. It gives great insight to the highly functioning autistic mind.

My review would not be fair without giving amazing credit to the reader. He was incredible! I loved his voice and inflections and mannerisms. He is hilarious and I'd love to listed to another book read by him!

Do yourself a favor and get this book. Prepare to be entertained!

    I loved this book!
I've never finished a book and then gone straight to my computer to rate it. There have been some great books that I've read, but I had to see if there's a sequel to this one right away. (There is! 'Seconds Away')
The narrater was great. There's a great story line, lots of action, it was witty and suspenseful, emotional, even heartbreaking in moments and I'd recommend it to anyone! I think that it may have been written for teens, but I enjoyed it as much as I've enjoyed any Harlan Coben book, and I've loved most of them! I will let my teenager listen to it as well, and I think she'll love it. It was clean, not over violent, no swearing or sex, and he even managed to keep a scene in a strip club chaste. The ending was great, a nice surprise, but a definite cliff hanger.
I'm really glad that I just read it and don't have to wait for a year to get the sequel.
I'm a definite follower of this series, Harlan! Keep them coming!

I enjoyed this book so much that before it was even over, I bought my friend the book to read. She loved it too! It is a non-stop whirlwind of suspense, action and mystery. I was so disappointed to have it end, though the ending was really, very good. I highly recommend this bok to anyone who needs to have a great listen while doing something unpleasant or mundane. Picking tooth picks out of a a haystack wouldn't seem boring if you were listening to this book at the same time! Enjoy!
