Far from the humorous escapades in his famous Hundred Acre Wood, A. A. Milne brings to The Red House Mystery all the suspense of classic whodunit: an unexpected visitor, a mysterious murder, a secret passageway, a beautiful woman and a suspicious valet. But when a guest at the inn becomes a self appointed 'Sherlock Holmes' and acquires his own, personal 'Dr Watson', some intriguing evidence comes to light. A classic detective thriller from the best-selling author of Winnie the Pooh.

What did you like best about Be Careful What You Wish For? What did you like least?

    Started off well but deteriorated

What could Jeffrey Archer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Given it a different ending. The first time I've been disappointed in an Archer book

    Which scene was your favorite?

First part of being on board ship

Did Be Careful What You Wish For inspire you to do anything?

    Not read the book again

    Any additional comments?

Seemed that Archer couldn't think of any other way of ending than to kill off the most attractive main characters so the title was given to cover this

Come with us to an Enchanted Place, a forest where Winnie-the-Pooh lived with Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, and Little Roo. The stories are about Christopher Robin and these good companions having wonderful times getting in and out of trouble. It is all very exciting and, really, quite thrilling no matter how young or old you may be. It is painful to try and imagine what the world would be like without them.

On one fateful day in Britain, fortunes change hands as a suicidal Junior Minister, an avaricious tycoon, and a seasoned criminal all play parts in a scheme that moves paper money around at a dizzying pace. Meanwhile, an ambitious young reporter for the Evening Post scrambles to crack the story. This early novel from Ken Follett, the author of On Wings of Eagles and The Key to Rebecca, plunges the reader into the worlds of crime, high finance, and journalism on the way to a masterfully plotted dramatic climax.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone with no interest in writing

What could Ken Follett have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

For me, Ken Follett can do no wrong. He is a great writer and his prose should not be edited.

What aspect of John Standing’s performance would you have changed?

Have him read the complete book which apparently is not available unabridged.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Paper Money?

    Everything

    Any additional comments?

Will try to remember to check and never buy an abridged book again

Put off listening to this book for 5 months expecting it to be over the top after all the reviews, films and recommendations. How foolish of me. Like many others, found it hard to get into but once on the hook I was unable to escape.

Through years of success in Hollywood composing music for Oscar-winning films, Chris Lowndes always imagined he would come full circle, home to Yorkshire with his beloved wife, Laura. Now he’s back in the Yorkshire Dales, but Laura is dead, and Chris needs to make a new life for himself. The isolated house he buys sight unseen should give him the space to come to terms with his grief and the quiet to allow to him to work. Kilnsgate House turns out to be rather more than he expected, however.

It is 1956. Stevens, the ageing butler of Dalington Hall, has just embarked on a motoring trip through the west of England that will become a journey deep into his past. As he winds his way through the English countryside, from the medieval charm of Salisbury, through Dorset and Devon and on to Cornwall, Stevens reflects on a life in which professionalism and service have been the guiding principles, and personal relations have been kept in their proper place.

A beautifully written description of how life was lived by some people in the not far-distant past. The question of "will she or won't she" kept me listening continuously despite the distractions around me. I really missed the personalities of the main characters when I had finished the book.

Among the student's circle of friends are Hugh Pilaster; Hugh's older cousin Edward, dissolute heir to the Pilaster banking fortune; and Micky Miranda, the handsome son of a brutal South American oligarchy. Surely one of the greatest novelists of our time. So much research to give us a picture of lives as they were lived at the time with suspense and conflict of ambitions woven in to keep the reader intrigued until the end.
