"Great Mystery, and Unexpected Romance"
Worth your money. I love modern day fantasies that find the unexpected lurking in the ordinary.
A group of young people find mystery, friendship, Romance and a nice little paranormal adventure in their old apartment building. You can trust this author to bring your heros to a great ending.
"Not as good as the first two"
If you're really into the characters and the story, and who isn't, then you'll read this whatever I say. Be warned the ending is grim, but isn't that what you expect.
This is my least favorite of the three and I wonder if the author didn't write herself into a corner. You will need to swallow several unlikely situations. The romantic conflict is exploding inside Kat, and often gets in the way.
Ultimately it's an unsatisfying ending, and not as smooth and believable as the first.
"A long pointless ride with 'Honest Abe' the thug."
An interesting concept, but poorly executed.
I found this book unsatisfying. It started with great promise, but the author never seemed to decide where he wanted to take the story. In-fact he takes several directions at once, but we never arrive at any destination. The authors point is lost somewhere in the wondering, leaving the reader wondering what to take away from your ten hour commitment.
We begin with a modern day horror, switch rapidly to a biography, and then an alternate-history supernatural fiction. I'm certain the author wanted this story to make a statement, but he changes voice with every change of theme. I found it all quite annoying and was disappointed he never tied the modern-day with the historical.
Fans of Lincoln should avoid this. The Great Emancipator is hateful, unforgiving, cold-blooded and hates God. I don't know much about Abe, but this book adds little to the debate over his motives and beliefs.
"Epic Story Telling"
If you're after epic fantasy, this is it. From breath of the world to the size of download this book shouts epic, the missing piece is Jordan's characters.
The characters are well drawn. The story moves at breakneck pace. The evil enemy is malicious and omnipresent, and the description is thorough. Here lies the problem, the story is so grandly detailed the main characters remain at arms length.
Jordan seems too concerned with setting a scene, or detaining heraldry to paint an actor I can connect with. I own the entire set and enjoyed the series, but never empathized with the characters.
Overall, you'll love it. Great story, but not perfect.
"Typical Clare, Demons, Mystery, Love triangle"
Good read, if this is your thing. Handsome, but troubled boys fight demons while vying for the girl, who until recently thought she was average. Throw in demons, Down Worlders, a mystery and you have a nice little story.
It's probably better than my rating, but as you see from my earlier comments, it's a bit formulaic and predictable.
This isn't really my favorite, but it was a nice ten hour adventure. I don't plan on continuing with the series.
"Could have been better"
Typicaal post-apocalyptic thriller. Extraordinarily talented teens battle wicked government plot.
To be honest, the plot is a bit predictable, but the characters are likable. Nice little romance. If you're stuck for a read, go for it. Personally I wasn't impressed enough to buy more of the series.
"Can't wait for the next installment"
Wow, grabs you from the start and keeps hold of you. I honestly couldn't stop listening.
The book is fun and informative, great characters and break-neck pace. You won't be sorry you listened,
"Loved it. Wonderful conclusion to this series."
Great ending, to a good trilogy.
The middle book left me wondering if the author had lost his way and doubting I wanted to continue, but this book was closer to the first, loads of intrigue and a satisfying conclusion that involves more historical figures.
A must read, well worth your money.
"Well developed world, but hard to stay interested."
Slow paced and the story itself is not terribly engaging. The reader does a decent job with the author's style which is rather elevated.
The world is developed, but the characters did not engage me.
Over-all, an average tale, in the epic fantasy style, but I won't read more in this series.
