"I am not a gamer, but..........."
This is a great listen! I am a semi-retired, female, non-gamer. I took a chance on this and am so glad I did. I have listened to it virtually non-stop since I downloaded it.
The narrator does a wonderful job of keeping the suspense of the novel going and is a huge plus for this audible experience.
There is a good deal of reference to the 80s pop culture. Music, film, TV and gaming are all recalled.
Now I have to find another book to listen to on my Xmas drive. I couldn't wait to finish this one. But thanks to all the audible reviewers for suggesting this one. You guys never let me dowm
Merry Xmas in the real and virtual worlf!
"SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK N ROLL"
The best, by the best......read it and weep! Every guys hero and every girls fantasy!
No apologies, no regrets.
Superb!
"My first Stephan King novel"
Superb remembrance of a time I lived through with the interesting twist of a touching love story and aspects of time travel. The period is lovingly handled by King. I could hear the sounds of music at the dances and remember the jitterbugs at my high-school dances.
Mr King' s writting skills are a joy. This being my first of his novels, I understand now why his books are so successful. The narrator was also very pleasant to listen to.
I highly recommend this novel for those who remember these nightmare occurances during our country's past and the many that followed.
I found the effects and results of Mr Amberson's changes to history jarring. On further reflection, I realized the possible validity of those interpretations. An inferred and stirring tribute to Pres. Lyndon Johnson's brillant handling of the civil rights movement and flawed escalation of the Vietnam War.
For those younger, yes, it can happen here......read and learn and always beware the extreme answers. They bring danger to our democracy.
"Utterly captivating"
What a wonderful tale. I enjoyed the different characters immensely and loved the descriptions of the Night Circus. It was a charming step back into time and another world. You will not be disappointed.
"My first Quinn listen"
I listened to this while I was outside staining my deck. It was a pleasant piece of candy that needed no attention to details. The perfect novel for the mindless task at hand. I don't think I will waste credits on another of her books, however. I fear they will all be the same? More interesting authors and characters out there.
"Incredible narration to a spellbinding classic...."
I have tried many times to make it through a Faulkner novel, only to become frustrated with my inablility to follow the complicated (albeit brilliant) style of his writing. He and Joyce are the two greats that I have not read to finality with any of their novels that I have attempted. Consequently, I was delighted to see that Audible was publishing this audio book with Will Patton as the narrator. Having listened to at least a dozen of his readings, light dawned instantly that this was the answer to my predicament. I was confident that, with his assistance, Faulker would no longer be a puzzle that I could not solve. He would provide the roadmap to get me through the Mississippi terrain.
I was not wrong in my expectations and I have not been disappointed in Mr. Patton or Mr. Faulkner. Each time I pull into my parking place at work, or into the driveway at night, I am disappointed that I must wait to continue with the story. But it is such a prize that I want to stetch out the experience for as long as possible.
While I was not alive during the era he writes of, I can remember my youth in the South twenty years later. The storyline and culture are eerily familiar. The strands of human nature still woven into today's headlines. Mr. Pattons's voice is a welcome friend and contains not a trace of falsity to the Southern tongue. The story line is relevent today both as history and commentary. It is all here......and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
"Dull narration makes mediocre storyline worse"
I am a huge fan of these authors....I was very disappointed in this book. A large part of the problem was the narration. The narrator was almost monotone in the delivery with very little range. He adopted a seriousness of tone that was never modulated during the ups and downs of the plot.
Also, the plot was not up to the authors' usual page turner. I found myself listening to this on my commute each day because I didn't have another new book to listen to. My advise would be to save your credits for the next Pendergast novel. If you are new to these authors', start with the first Pendergast and go through the series. You will not be disappointed.
"Second worst audio book I have found in five years"
I just am amazed I fell for this title. I tried as hard as I could to get into this book but could not get past the third chapter.....
"Wonderful surprise"
This is not the type of book I usually read or listen to. I chose it because I wanted a change of pace over my usual read and because of the reader reviews .I am so glad I did. It is one of the best listens I have discovered on Audible.com and recommend it highly. I am not surprised to see it win an award. Can't wait to listen to his latest.
"One of my favorite Audible authors"
I just love Micah Dalton and the cast of characters in this book.....the blend of humor and hard core spy/violence is well balanced. Do yourself a favor and listen to the first in the series before you listen to this one. It is not crucial to do so, but will add to your enjoyment of this one. The first is by far and away the best work that I have heard/read by this author. Great listen!
And don't you just love Porter Nauman? I would love for the author to do a historical lookback with Porter and Micah both working together.....don't know how he would manage it, but food for thought.
