  • Zero Day

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty, Orlagh Cassidy
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

From David Baldacci - the modern master of the thriller and number-one worldwide best-selling novelist - comes a new hero: a lone Army Special Agent taking on the toughest crimes facing the nation. John Puller is a combat veteran and the best military investigator in the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigative Division. His father was an Army fighting legend, and his brother is serving a life sentence for treason in a federal military prison. Puller has an indomitable spirit and an unstoppable drive to find the truth.

Steve says: "There will be more of Puller ...."
"Okay, But jumps past the actual story."
What made the experience of listening to Zero Day the most enjoyable?

I like when they have a woman do the female voices. McLarty can't pull off the female voices.

Would you recommend Zero Day to your friends? Why or why not?

What about Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ???s performance did you like?

Audio books are better when there is a male and a female voice actor to take the specific gener roles.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Pissed me off that the main female character doesn't make it to the end of the book.

    Any additional comments?

the book is fairly long. They go through the whole book, Puller does his investigation but answers very few questions about the case. Then all answers are just thrust upon the reader in a couple of chapters at the end, without explanation of how Puller gets to the answers.

I expected Puller to be some wonderful investigative mind, but he really is just middle of the road investigator with some nice special forces training. The way Baldacci ends the book with all the answers just given to the reader without explanation, causes Puller to not be that interesting of a character. I also found that he doesn't have any emotions until late in the book when he finally feels something towards Cole. Before that he seems like an uninteresting machine that doesn't care about anything but solving the case.

  • Hounded: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Kevin Hearne
    • Narrated By Luke Daniels
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Chris says: "Finally, a modern day fantasy that really hits the"
    "Unbelievably good"

I can't even begin to say hot great this book was. Not only was the story entertaining and well thought out, but the conversations were hilarious. The characters were good, the villains sufficiently evil.

My only caution to those who are just starting out, learn some things about druids and mythology before you start or some of the characters won't make much sense to you.

My only complaint is that this book would have been nice to be much longer.

  • Odd Apocalypse: An Odd Thomas Novel, Book 5

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By David Aaron Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

D says: "Odd Apocalypse; Oddly Great"
"Nice book But Doesn't Advance the Characters"
If you could sum up Odd Apocalypse in three words, what would they be?

    NO Character Advancement

Would you recommend Odd Apocalypse to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, though it doesn't really advance the main plot of the series, the story is still good.

Which character – as performed by David Aaron Baker – was your favorite?

    Odd of course.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Not really

    Any additional comments?

Again, I liked this book, but we learn nothing of Anna Marie or what she's there for. We learn nothing more of what Odd Thomas will have to do for her. The story is great, the narration great, but this book doesn't really fit in the series very well. It feels like a filler while we wait for the real next novel in the series where he gets back to telling us what matters.
