"Glad I stuck with it"
At half way through Boardwalk Empire I thought the author was getting too redundant about what it took to be an Enoch Johnson - favors, power, votes; but I stuck with the book and the second half was excellent. From Steven Wynn and Donald Trump to suggestions about what's wrong with AC and how to fix it were all entertaining and informative.
"Horrible Narrator"
Bob Balaban, the narrator, detracted from the book by putting commas where they weren't and changing the speed of his read from mach 1 to molasses at the oddest times. The fastest was at the beginning of the book and he'd slow to describe the dessert at the electrical engineering dinner in Canada - really, who cares?
I looked up Bob Balaban to make sure I'd never listen to one of his books again - this is his only one, I guess narrating was a bad and short career move; wish I had gotten the abridged version, I see it has a different narrator. Anyone would have been better. If this had been my first audible book I'd have cancelled my account immediately!
"New Review"
I think this was the audio clip taken from his shows. Jokes live or bomb on delivery and mistakes weren't fixed; that's too bad.
I enjoy a comedy every now and then but won't go to Bill Maher's New Rules for my next one.
Anyone, I've got a nice collection of audible books and of them all Maher was the worst narrator. I even have Rumy's book - Known and Unknown lol
The joke about George Will.... of all the conservative columnists to make fun of, George has to be one the brightest with the most cogent arguments; so many others are more worthy of a joke.
"Unorganized rambling mess w no illustrations"
The good part of the book, the one star, was that that there were fun examples of being wrong and the subject got me excited.
Why do we act the way we do about being wrong. It's thought provoking and makes for great conversation.
However, the presentation was mostly dry and rambling and the most frustrating part was the presentation of Exhibit 3.1 that I could not see, even though I downloaded the enhanced version of the book.
I won't make it past chapter 3.
