Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.

I couldn't wait for this book to become available, and I downloaded it immediately. I loved "Angels and Demons" and "The Davinci Code". Unfortunately, this book really fell short. The facts are interesting, but I never felt myself "sitting on the edge of my seat". I still don't see the big "national security" issue. It was so overblown that it was a let down when it was revealed. Likewise, the big twist in the story was fairly obvious by the time I was half way through the book. I think it is worth the credit. It held my attention, but it doesn't even come close to his previous works.

In the summer of 1985, when she was fifteen, Eliza was kidnapped by Walter and held hostage for almost six weeks. He had killed at least one girl and Eliza always suspected he had other victims as well. Now on death row in Virginia for the rape and murder of his final victim, Walter seems to be making a heartfelt act of contrition as his execution nears. Though Eliza wants nothing to do with him, she's never forgotten that Walter was most unpredictable when ignored.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely interested in reading another. I thought about the bad reviews below, and I have to disagree, mostly. I generally don't like "chick flicks", or books that would fit that description. I am a woman, by the way. However, I might have to concede that this book would be somewhat more to the liking of women. There is no real mystery or suspense. There are no lurid details of the crimes. However, I was interested in how it ended because of the character development. I also loved the reader.

Recipe for disaster: Celebrity chef Stanley Chipotle comes to Trenton to participate in a barbecue cook-off and loses his head - literally. Throw in some spice: Bail bonds office worker Lula is witness to the crime, and the only one she'll talk to is Trenton cop, Joe Morelli. Pump up the heat: Chipotle's sponsor is offering a million-dollar reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the capture of the killers.

"I think the whole series is great"
    Overall

I do not agree with the other reviewers. I love this series, and I love the characters. The reason I love them is because it is light, and cute, and I don't have to think too hard. I would agree that the 14th in the series was my least favorite, but this one was good. If I am looking for an edge of my seat suspense, I look elsewhere. But if I want to chuckle and know nothing too horrifying will happen, I reach for a Plum novel. I like the love triangle, and do not want Stephanie to choose one of them. My only complaint is I do not like the reader's voice for Grandma Mazur. The narrator for the first few books, C.J. Critt, did a much better voice for her, and made her hilarious. King's portrayal of that character isn't funny.

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, her mentor Ranger, and a host of other - ahem - interesting characters set out to find a missing 7-year-old girl. The search becomes a race among Stephanie's posse, the True Blue Bonds Agency, and the crew of one very scary man named Eddie Abruzzi. Did we mention there's also a killer rabbit on the loose? The world of Stephanie Plum has never been wilder!

I love this series by Evanovich. The stories are funny, but also provide a mystery. I have moments of anxiety, wondering how Stephanie is going to get out of her latest bind. It also has moments of laugh-out-loud humor. This particular book has some very funny moments. The lead character has two swoon-worthy men in her life, which adds an element of relationship/love to the stories as well. I would recommend listening to the whole series in order, but it is not necessary. They are very entertaining and light hearted.
