Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

I have been listening to Audible for several years, 50 or so books a year. The Help was one of a handful that I could not bear to see end. I loved every minute, and even did the ironing so I could listen more. The three main characters are brave, human and endlessly interesting. The villain, Hilly, is a bit of a characature, but a side show. I cared about these women, their courageous secret and their insights into life. Don't miss this one.

When Napoleon Bonaparte died in exile in 1821, he took to the grave a powerful secret. As general and emperor, he had stolen immeasurable riches from palaces, national treasuries, and even the Knights of Malta and the Vatican. In his final days, his British captors hoped to learn where the loot lay hidden. But he told them nothing, and in his will he made no mention of the treasure. Or did he?

"Scott Brick ruins the Paris Vendetta"
    Overall

I have listened to perhaps 200 books over the past few years, and I've never had to stop and delete before. I tried and tried but didn't get past the first 45 minutes. Scott Brick is horrible. The same unbelievably annoying lilt to each sentence. Awful attempts at a French accent, and failure to let the story speak for itself. I spend time before selecting each book and was looking forward to a new author and an interesting story. Disappointing. Would like to have my credit restored, and will NEVER download another Scott Brick narration!

Peter Robinson is the critically acclaimed New York Times and London Sunday Times best-selling author of the Inspector Alan Banks series, as well as a winner of the 2001 Anthony and 2001 Ellis Awards. Close to Home traverses the difficult landscapes of a painful past, and an uncertain future for Inspector Banks. Two 15-year-old boys are lost, and the circumstances of their disappearances seem oddly parallel save one detail. The first boy disappeared and was presumed dead 35 years ago.

I looked forward to reading another Peter Robinson book after Friend of the Devil. Couldn't even give it a chance because the reader was so AWFUL. Weird intonations, nasal, bizarre.
