This was a most pleasant listen. I found myself smiling and even giggling out loud. You couldn't find two characters to like any more. The plot was a little outlandish but thats what generated the humor. The reader was a little stilted at first but all in all she did the voices pretty well. I was sorry to hear it end. I'm going to look for other books by Ms Evanovich.

This was a fun listen. I'm ashamed to admit how long it took me to catch on to the mystery which only delighted me more once I had at least some of the motive figured out. It was farsical and therefore not meant to be overly serious.

All the characters are likeable and its set after the great wall street crash. It's interesting to see all the upper classess trying to redefine themselves in order to survive financially in a tough economy.

The narrator, Katherine Kellgren does accents and men's voices very well. You have no difficulty keeping up with the dialog. Her reading is not overly dramatized as I wouldn't like that but it's also not under performed. Her phrasing and timing add to the quality of the listen.

I kind of hated the trite,perdictable way the author resolved all the subplots he created. It's like we hit the prescribed number of pages and a 'they lived happily ever after' was thrown on the end.What is a shame is that there truly were many good scenes that were scary and exciting and fun to listen to. I loved the scenes around the hijacked water tanker (nothing of the story spoiled here). It's very James Bond-esque and good. Too bad the author did such a bad job of keeping his eye on where he needed the story to go in order to resolve the subplots into some sort of believeable ending.The ending was boarderline silly.

I couldn't stop thinking of the Amelia Peabody series that Barbara Rosenblat also narrates most often. This didn't take away from the excellent narration and delightful story. Beatrice is my favorite kind of woman. Strong minded and strong willed but appreciative of a strong man who can balance her and keep her safe.

I really liked the scene where Beatrice forces her way into the Earl of Montecrest's home. Her man handling of the butler was simply delightful.

I enjoyed the book so much that the next one is queued up in my listening list.

This was my first Arcane society story and I kept thinking so where is the underlying story of this society. Apparently it was down played in this story.

Also, the narrator's voice sounds a little older than I really think Beatrice and Leo at 24 and 40 should have sounded. It's a picky comment and certainly didn't ruin the book but it might bother some listeners. The narrator does a great job of keeping the character's dialog distinct so you know who is speaking and with great delivery. It makes up for this inconsistency.

I always listen to Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe novels instead of reading them with my eyes. I just enjoy the experience of listening and Michael Prichard does all the voices perfectly. I can see each character clearly in my mind. My plan is to eventually listen to the whole series.

I adore Archie. He's smart and handsome and is perfect for keeping neurotic Nero Wolfe honest.

There's a great scene where Archie is interviewing the victim's wife but she's engrossed in the middle of a baseball game on tv. The questions and answers come in between plays and you feel like you are sitting there watching the game with them.

I love the character Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin. I love the way Rex Stoudt puts dialog in Archie's mouth and Archie's little 'get even' tactics with Wolfe. Wolfe is a wonderful crazy genius and he and I both love orchids. This book, written in 1958 also is a lot of fun from the perspective of knowing they didn't have at their disposal the things we now have at our disposal. It's a lovely little time capsule so well done it's fun. Of course I also am a big fan of old black and white movies. The Narrator does a very good job and my intent is to savor each and everyone of the Nero Wolfe's.

Actually, I'm not crazy about short stories but as they go, these were fun. Wolfe ends up solving all four mysteries for free. You'll have to listen to find out why

My mother, an avid reader, introduced me to Nero Wolfe in the written form and when the series was on TV with Timothy Hutton, I was entranced by it. It brought me closer to her and a time when she influenced me. As to which is better eyes or ears... I happen to think that the same part of my brain is engaged whether I read with my eyes or my ears. Michael indeed does an excellent job of portraying Nero and Archie as well as the other recurring players. It's a delightful light listen that keeps you trying to beat Nero to the solution.

No one reads better than Anna Fields and SEP always delivers an entertaining story and loveable characters. I've read this book before and was totally entertained listening to it this time.

I have to agree that the narrator detracts from the story. Despite that it's a good story and important parts of the Ruby dynasty's story resolve so I enjoyed it.

I'm obsessed with Claire and Jamie and Scottland and I love the vinettes that Gabaldon writes. Lots of action and suspense and romance and a bit of history. Wonderful! I'm actually reading Firey Cross right now so I'm pretty far along in the series. It's only a bazillion pages long and you love these characters so much, you are really glad it goes on and on. Real value for your dollar too! Great narrator. I often forget that its one person reading. She does the accents so well and all the foreign names of people and places. A winner. I'll read / listen to this one again one day.

I love the Inspector Alleyn mysteries. The narrator does the voices pretty well too. I usually can figure out who the murderer is but this one had me stumped. Nice grow to Rory and Troy's relationship too. Very enjoyable listen.

I'm a big SEP fan and an Anna Fields fan so this wasn't a big risk. I read this book a few years ago and remembered it was a good story. I decided that I wanted to 'listen' to it this time. And...I loved it all over again. It's a good story about two broken people who are functioning on their own but get healed together. It's uplifting. Oh...and does anyone do the secondary plot quite like SEP. I loved Ethan and his romance too. Strong men who love kids and their wives. It's irresistible!
