I am such a fan of Audible! I love Mysteries, Romance, Paranormal novels of all kinds, spy novels, and self improvement books. I am particular about the quality of story telling by both authors, and narrators so I hope listeners will find some of my reviews helpful. I value the artists who respect the nature of audio book entertainment, and thank each of them for their ability to transport listeners to another level!

I passed this one up a few times but I finally took a chance, and WOW am I glad I did!
I loved the vague parallel with Cinderella. This story had its own personality which really came to life and drew me in. The narrator was on her game! I can't wait for book 2!!!

Lauren DeStefano makes a stellar debut with this chilling tale. The first installment of a planned trilogy, Wither introduces listeners to a bleak world where a mysterious disease kills most women by the age of 20 and men by the age of 25. Like many girls her age, 16-year-old Rhine has been captured and forced into marriage in an effort to keep the population growing. But, despite her new husband’s wealth, she wants nothing more than to escape her servitude and return home before time runs out.

This could have been a good one. It had potential, but that potential along with my credit withered away. I just got so frustrated with the narrators droning on and on, with the characters making no real sense, and with the authors depressing, endless misery she kept doling out. I had to stop listening.

Please don't waste a credit, and please don't encourage any YA reader to either.

For a vampire killer like Jane, having Leo Pellisier as a boss took some getting used to. But now, someone is out to take his place as Master Vampire of the city of New Orleans, and is not afraid to go through Jane to do it. After an attack that’s tantamount to a war declaration, Leo knows his rival is both powerful and vicious, but Leo’s not about to run scared. After all, he has Jane. But then, a plague strikes, one that takes down vampires and makes their masters easy prey.

When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she'd pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up...until he opened his mouth. Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It's hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he's an alien.

This author seems to have tapped into interesting new concept for YA para/novella. The door is wide open for a long series, with colorful characters. There are a few holes in the ground work, but they may be filled in as the series progresses.

This narrator really brought out the color of the main characters. I loved the ease with which she used to make the banter between the characters witty and fun. Very realistic inflection, and tone.I really enjoyed her performance.

I'm glad I took a chance and spent a credit on this one.

    Story

This story has so many messages in it that I just don't feel a movie could convey them all.To be fair, I have not seen the movie yet, but we all know the feeling that half the book gets left off the screen unless we are watching Lord of the Rings.

This is a story of character, tolerance, forgiveness, redemption, and paradigm shifts. Not a great deal of action, just some. (not as the movie trailers would suggest, unless they rewrote the book)

Overall, a really good listen. the narrator did a remarkable job. The author went for a serious plot with a lot of great ideas and concepts. Very entertaining. Worth a credit? Yes.

I thought this writer did a good job with introducing a twist in P/R. The narration at times was really good, then had trouble with changing pace to often, so the timing of humor and action seemed off. The thing that was a maddening distraction what the fact that the mysterious male hero started with a great russian accent, then mid conversation would have an english accent, then an American one. After a short time couldn't tell the difference between characters. The male characters personality really left a lot to be desired. He started with promise, then just fizzled out! Very distracting. Oh well...

I love this author but this vampire series is lacking. I just cannot make myself listen anymore. Even when I had nothing new in my library, I had to re-listen to old favorites. I felt the narrator just could not construct the humor in the blueprint of this book. Therefore, I just could not appreciate the tone of the characters. I thought perhaps I was not in the right mood for it at the first listen, so I paused to listen to another. Every time I returned to the book I felt like it was just wasting my time.

Other series by this author are fantastic. This vampire shtik just doesn't work.Im too disappointed to try another by this author and narrator. I cannot recommend this book!
