"absolutely wonderful"
I loved this book! Scott Brick is my favorite narrator-he could make the phone book interesting. Luckily, he didn't have to try that hard. I could not stop listening from beginning to end. I am looking forward to other reads by this author. This was 1 of 2 favorite audible books-the other was "The Scarecrow" by Michael Connelly. Completely worth the credit.
"Really good"
As always Michael Connelly provided me with a days entertainment while doing mundane chores. I'm glad to see Haller back because honestly getting tired of Bosch who to me has lost his edge. I would have given it 5 stars but guessed the outcome early on in the book. Still enjoyable and worth the credit.
"Less than 1 star"
What is the term for worse than awful? I had high hopes for this book given the reviews. The plot was inspired but the execution was just plain bad. By the end of the book I wanted to kill them all off!
"Endearing and flawed herione"
Almost didn't get this book because of the reviews but very glad I did. The subtopic of child molestation can be a slippery slope for any author. I think Mr. Iles did a good job, thoughtful and empathetic. As a child abuse survivor I was drawn to the book. What I got was a good suspense story along with some comfort from the heroine who mirrored some of my own behaviors and thoughts. This may not be the book for everyone and as one reviewer stated it may "turn your stomach" to hear the details. The reality is that many, many children are abused every day by their fathers, uncles, brothers or mothers. They frequently feel alone and helpless. I know this is not a forum for my special cause but would like to say keep your minds and eyes open.
I read every day mostly suspense/mysteries and actually do know the gendre so don't miss a really good read because of the "unpleasant" content.
"Beautifully written"
I usually do not listen to sci/fi except the occasional Charlaine Harris and stick to the strictly whodunits BUT.....absolutely loved this book. It is not checkered throughout with profanity and porno sex scenes as was inferred by another reviewer. There is actually very little along those lines. The homosexual liason was without much detail to offend anyone (except the most extreme homophobe). The mystic flavor is not determined to be reality, it could be just a dream or delusions. Whatever it is, I enjoyed the entire book (it is very long) and found myself not wanting to finish. And could George Guidall be any better? Hoping for a sequel.
"So very bad"
Redundant to the inth degree. I have enjoyed this authors books in the past but this one...........???? The content of this novel could have filled 2-3 chapters instead of dragging us painfully through hours and hours and hours of dribble. I'm close to the end now but honestly don't think I care enough to finish.
"Really bad"
especially from an author I have enjoyed in the past. What happened? It is so poorly plotted and the characters not as described. I would think that Mace really would have been a gritty, hardened police officer turned con. THAT character would have been interesting. Wish I had read Roberts review before purchase.
"consistent pleasure"
This is my 5th book by Thomas Perry and I am only into the first few chapters. I haved enjoyed each thoroughly starting with the Jane Whitfield mysteries. He is now one of my favorite authors along with Michael Connolly. They are like pistachio ice cream and chocolate fudge cake-I love both but cannot choose between. Each one satisfies a craving at a particular time of desire.
"Lost in translation"
I have really loved the previous books by Lee Child but this one has left me confused and lost. The transitions are jerky without conhesiveness. I was excited about listening to the latest from this author only now just sorry I used my credit on this book.
"Enthralling"
Very well written and difficult to turn off! I would have rated it a 5 but wasn't crazy about the ending.
