"Well Done!"
The only thing about a listening to a great book that can be disappointing, is trying to find another great book to follow it up. My wife and I had just listened to "Pleasure To The Max" by Cami Dalton and loved it. Sexy, funny and intriguing. How do you follow up a great listen like that? You get "Welcome To Temptation". Great characters, Great story. Constant laughing throughout.
Any complaints? Just two small ones. At first the narrator seems to be speaking too fast. I felt like your typical male trying to follow a conversation between three women at full speed. It took me a few chapters to feel comfortable with it. So either I got got used to her delivery, or she slowed down. Second, the sex was 'Just ok', not steamy. But everything else was so good, that that hardly mattered in the end.
We'll definitely be purchasing a few of her other books.
"But the cover was hot!"
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but overall this collection didn't do it for me. They tried, adding in music, hot moans and groans etc, but in the end the writing seemed amateurish and the reading even worse.
Out of the five selections in the ocllection, two of them seemed together enough to maintain my attention, but the rest are very forgettable. On one there's a man reading and his execution (along with the writing) is so poor that I've yet to make it more than half way through before skipping to the next story.
Although the cover is very hot and effectively lures you in, you might do better spending your money elsewhere.
"A very good read."
My daughter reads a lot... a whole lot. I once asked her if she liked reading Romance novels. She replied "no" and explained that she really liked a 'good well written book that locks you in". She felt this was hard to find in the romance genre. Although I've personally found a few romance books that I liked, I fully understood her complaint.
Well I think "Tempted" would definitely challenge her reasoning. It's a very well written story with an intriguing plot line, great character development, strong emotional engagement and hot sex. I tend to guess how the story will end or what the next step will be, but I was wrong at each attempt with this book.
Male readers. Female readers. It doesn't matter. There's something here for everyone.
"what happened to the editor?"
Although I found the stories in this collections to be very erotic and attractive in that respect, this was quickly overshadowed by the numerous errors and other distractions. To begin with, the poor audio quality doesn't do the book justice. The constant hum is nerve racking... at least to me. Next you have many errors where words or entire phrases were repeated twice in succession. Obviously the intention was for one to be edited out, but the audio editor missed it. By the time you get to the last story, you've experienced this 10 or more times.
But these are complaints about the production, not the content. My 'only' grip with the writing came with the over use (abuse??) of the word 'sex' as it relates to character's genitals. Couldn't the author think of anything else to call them besides 'sex'? At times she used the word sex 4 or 5 times in the same paragraph and multiple time in the same sentence. Again, a quick pass by an editor would have yielded a few new (or at least different) descriptive terms.
But despite all of this, the stories were good and entertaining, and I guess in the end, I'd rather have good writing and mediocre production value, than the other way around. With some work in the recording studio and a little tweaking here and there, this collection would be near the top of my list.
"This book delivers on its promise"
This book is simply wonderful. I've listened to it completely through three times now with a week or so between listens to imbibe and put into practice what I've learned. I can honestly say that with each listen I picked up a little more that helps me give my wife 'absolute pleasure' as promised.
From the very first page of my very first listen, so much of what the author suggest doing (or not doing) has rung so true, that its sent me back for repeated listens.
One of the most amazing things to me is that my wife and I have been married for nearly 10 years now and I thought I knew her pretty well in bed. But after taking the time to practice some of the tips in this book and noticing my wife's overwhelmingly positive response (an understatement), I'm bewildered by how well I actually 'didn't' know what she liked and how much she does like but never expressed to me.
I also felt this book to be very expansive covering topics that rarely get mentioned in other books on the subject. Stuff us guys really need to know. Not just 'text book' stuff, but real input and feedback from real women and men. That helps me trust the info more.
Lastly, I really like Lou's delivery. Her 'workshop-like' experience really shines here as she's an excellent speaker, making the book easy to listen to. It's not boring or monotonous, and doesn't give me the feeling that she's simply reading it, but more like she's just sitting there talking to a group of us. That's one reason why I think I was able to listen to this repeatedly without growing tired of it as I've done with other written and audio books.
I rarely give anything 5 stars, but this book delivers.
