I thoroughly enjoyed "The Kitchen House". I listened to the audio version of this book in two days. I found myself at times when not listening wandering what was going on with the characters, Momma, Belle, Lavinia, Papa and the others.To me, this story wasn't just another book about slavery and how slaves were treated but it had an interesting twist. In the story there's a little frail Irish girl who is brought by the Captain to work and live with the slaves. In doing so she forms an unimaginable bond and attachment to them that transforms her as a child and changes the course of her life as an adult.

The voice was annoying after some time.

It inspired me to read the other books to understand this one.

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a great listen and story. I love anything regarding slavery. It's a haunting and moving story.

All the struggles of Lilith and with Lilith. The strength of Homer.

This was the first listen by Robin Miles. I believe she did a great job.

What can I say? I am sad that this book has come to an end. I don't think I've said that in a long while. This book surpassed my expectations. I went into it thinking good but not above par. It will take much for another to compete. The Audio was exceptional. Emma Galvin did an AWESOME job with all the characters, IMO. Did I feel that Divergent was written with only the YA reader in mind? NO.... and for that I gave it 5 stars. I will tell all and reccomend to everyone to read or listen to this gem. I am in GREAT anticipation for Insurgent on MAY 1ST.....CAN'T WAIT!!

First, I have to give credit to Ms Sarah Drew. She was exceptional in this book and Delirium as well. I don't know if I would've liked this story or would've continued reading it if I wasn't listening instead. Sarah's voice got me through the dragging lulls in the story. As for the book, it was just okay. It definitely wasn't as good as the first and it wasn't what I was expecting, but not in a good way. Lauren Oliver is a great writer, make no mistake in what I'm saying. She can make any sentence a good one, smooth and flowing. I will continue to purchase anything from Ms. Oliver and listen to everything by Ms. Drew.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The audio version with Adenrele Ojo added something extra. To me she became "Davie". I listened on my player in the home, I listened through the car stereo and then on my outings when out of the car. When not listening I couldn't stop my brain from wondering what was going on with Davie. This book had captivated me and I couldn't function until I knew the whole story of Davie Jones. Ms. Carter pulls you in from the first page. You immediately begin a relationship roller coaster with Davinia and James. The added bonuses to the novel, for me, are that I too share a love for the movies 16 Candles with Jake Ryan, Pretty in Pink with Duckie and Blaine and I thoroughly enjoyed the infusion of the characters and movie references in the book.. This is a must read for everyone. You wont be disappointed!

The Darkest Child by Delores Phillips is soul wrenching horrendous. One would never believe that a Mother could so deeply harm a child, let alone "10" of them, emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. Rozelle is a woman who is Pure Evil! She cares for no one, not even herself. Unfortunately, the reader never finds out why Rozelle is the way she is. She's hateful, spiteful, souless, and completely mental. She has 10 children by 10 different men. Most are as white as she is with one being what she calls "A Dummy" and the other "Dark as her tires". This is a Mother who pimps her sons and prostitutes her daughters.

They lived in a small town in 50's and 60's back when there were signs of segregation and blacks were no longer slaves but instead paid slaves, maids. The people in the town had just grown accustomed to the way things were and weren't looking nor asking for change. And when one does he dissappears. There are many complex characters in this story. It is a page turner for sure. I just couldn't stop reading about this mass of disfunction.

I was disheartened to learn that Ms. Phillips hasn't written another novel. I wouldn't have thought from the texture and complex nature of this novel, it was her first. I'm sure I wont forget this book any time soon. It is hard for me to write this review without giving away spoilers. There's just too much to tell. Pick this book up. You wont be dissappointed.

I listened to the audio version of this book from Amazon's Audible. The reader, Caitlin Davies was FANTASTIC. Her voice was smooth and she livened the story. I would give Caitlin 5 stars. Sometimes, when listening to a book instead of reading it, the choice of the reader can be a terrible mistake that can negatively affect the book.

I have read all of Anna Godberson's books thus far. Beautiful Days was a good read, nothing over top but a solid story. No doubt about it, Anna's writing is simply beautiful. She has a way with words. In this second installment the story centers aroung the girls, Letty, Cordelia and Astrid but also features more of Charlie. I liked that Charlie had a bigger role in the story as now he has to take over his Fathers Empire. I enjoyed watching Cordelia getting more aquainted and at ease in her new role and lifestyle. As many have said before me, Astrid is annoying, spoiled and whiny at best. So, I wont say much about her but that she gets in a whole heep of trouble, more than once, for her foolishness.

Letty, is who I am rooting for to make it big and become the talk of the town. I am hoping in the next installment she has the limelight and the story will revolve around her.
