"In the Belly of the Beast"
Anthony Bourdain as narrator made this book as far as I am concerned. I have enjoyed his show No Reservations for years and would have hated to hear another voice. I enjoyed this book as a total novice who did not understand how kitchens and restaurants run. I feel I got a much better grip on all that. Some of it was pretty gruesome but it seemed to be very honest. My only comment ( and I can't even really classify it as negative) is that I would not listen/read this again.
"Superior Performance"
This has been a favorite book for many years. I have read the print version 3 times but only got through the speech once, so thought I should try a listen. I originally bought the Scott Brick version on sale but was unable to listen to that narrator after a few hours. Get this version. Christopher Hurt does an awesome job.
"Listen to the Christopher Hurt version."
This is one of my all time favortite books. I have read this book 3 times, but I never made it through the speech but once. I decided to listen, and originally bought this version during an Audible sale. After listening for a few hours, I could not listen to this narrator any longer and purchased the Christopher Hurt version. SO much better. I am sad to know that the book will end in the next couple of commutes.
"What a team!"
L. A. Meyer and Katy Kellgren are simply an unbeatable combination. I wait for the audio books to come out because I think Ms. Kellgren's performance adds so much to the stories. I am never disappointed.
"Great Listen"
I just want to say that both readers were awesome. This book had me looking forward to my commute. The writing was so vivid, it was almost like watching a movie. I highly recommend this wonderful listen.
"Excellent Listen"
I have read and enjoyed this author's previous Kate Shugak and Liam Campbell series and was not sure how I would like this stand alone novel. However, I must say I think this is one of her best. The reader did and excellent job with quite a large cast of characters.
The story was interesting and moved at a good pace, the theme could be from today's headlines, and the ending is worthy of a Hollywood action film.
"Lovely"
I have not finished listening to this book, but I have read all the others and know there is generally more about character than plot in these novels. I disagree with the previous review. I think the reader does a wonderful job of expressing the pace of these novels and highlighting the various characters. It did take me a while before I could listen to "Mma" (a courtesy title) without thinking of a speech impediment, but it does finally integrate into the whole.
Much of the charm of this series is the fact the books are set in a place where life is slower and less frantic than the world most of us inhabit. Give it a chance. Enjoy the ride.
