  • Classical Music 101

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Fred Plotkin
    • Narrated By Fred Plotkin

In clear and entertaining prose, Plotkin explores a thousand years of music, introduces listeners to more than 100 great works, and profiles in depth many significant composers, including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Dvoxak, and Mahler. He describes all the musical instruments in the orchestra, defines major musical terms, and makes music theory comprehensible for the uninitiated. There are also conversations with important musicians who offer fascinating insights about their art.

    Kenneth says: "Musical lecture"

This book was very disappointing. There is not a note of music in this audio selection. In the beginning of the audiobook, Plotkin promises to treat his audience different and he certainly does.

If you are (a beginner) looking for a place to explain the different pieces and formations of a symphony along with a lucid explanation of different instrument with some quality aural examples, this is NOT the book.

If you are looking for someone to narrate a descritpion of all the instruments in an orchestra (with not a musical note to exeplify any instrument), spit out different chronological timelines of composers (not that the timeline is not invaluable), explain the difference between the words virtuoso and diva and the author's take on the excessive usage of the latter, buy this book....and may be it wont be as disappointing for you then.

  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Audiobook): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Jon Stewart, The Writers of The Daily Show
    • Narrated By Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart, host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning The Daily Show, and his coterie of patriots deliver a hilarious look at American government.

Connie says: "Runs hot and cold..but when it's's hot"
"Political History & Civic affairs - Dirty overview"

Although I don't watch The daily Show, I saw Jon Stewart promoting this book on The Tonight Show and he was actually very funny and cracked me up. I bought his audio book the very next day.

The book is nothing like what I anticipated it to be. One of the earlier reviewers is right - A couple of laughs and after about 90 mts, I couldnt tolerate it anymore.

The book's title should be enhanced to read 'America - Quick, (irksome,) and dirty overview of our political History & Civic Affairs'

  • The Funny Thing Is...

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Ellen Degeneres
    • Narrated By Ellen Degeneres

Ellen DeGeneres published her first book of comic essays, the #1 best selling My Point...and I Do Have One, way back in 1996. Not one to rest on her laurels, the witty star of stage and screen has since dedicated her life to writing a hilarious new book. That book is this audiobook.

Heidi says: "Ellen's latest book- The Funny Thing Is..."

I am a big fan of Ellen. I think she is awesome.

But, this book is probably the worst I've heard of Ellen. Her narration is very very very flat and there is absolutely no intonation.

Very unlike her TV shows. Not impressed at all.

Disclaimer: On this audio book, I just could not get myself to go beyond the 2 hour mark (due to how wearingly dull the narration was) - so cannot comment on if the quality (somehow) improved after.

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Al Franken
    • Narrated By Al Franken

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Peter says: "Franken's One Sided View"
"Entertaining but just not serious enough"

There are quite a few reviews on this book as of now - interestingly most of them are either five stars or a single with few in between.

Being a supporter of neither political reigns out there, this book was certainly entertaining to me...well, atleast a major portion of it. (I am not sure what 14 Harvard interns did on this book though.)

If you do not like listening to Plato or Bryson or 104.1 on your commute, and are looking for something much more funnier (sic!) than Ellen, listen to this book.

If you detest liberals, stay glued to the "Spin Factor", or agree with the tax cuts (duh!), stay away from this book...but then again, you shouldn't even be reading this review. :)
