"BE CAREFUL -- It's hard to stop listening!"
If you are listening when working or driving, make sure you have plenty of time to hear BIG dollops of this one. There is an excellent chance you'll have a very hard time putting it aside to do other things in your life. The narrator, Erin Mallon, did an excellent job with a difficult character in the naive young wife who has unwittingly turned her husband away from their marriage bed. She works to woo him back and does so, but the path is twisted and dark. He is a grand character, too, full of personal doubt and misgivings, but with a sense of honor that is truly his own. A wonderful story, well enacted. Looking for more!
"WOW. Fantastic Storyline - Incredible performance"
This is a delightful story regarding a woman with real life experience and a Scottish lord who has a socially-functional level of autism. Their interactions and the paranoia of the Victorian society around them is interesting and believable. Angela Dawe does a wonderful job with the accents and expressing the tension between the antagonistic detective and Lord Ian as well as the Lady who finds herself in love with the troubled Lord and targetted by an obsessed Scotland Yard detective who seeks to destroy the Mackenzie family. A startling ending, too.
A wonderful story, well-told!
"The best matching of a narrator and script!"
Wow. Simon Prebble and Stephanie Laurens -- what a match! Her story lines are brought to life by the voice and ability of Simon Prebble. You hear a voice and know who is speaking, what they are feeling and thinking. Stephanie Laurens' fully formed characters, with their strengths and weaknesses, their pride and humility find true expression in the rich embodiment given them by Simon Prebble. Laurens creates characters you would enjoy speaking with, dancing with, being with. Her rich sensuality and sense of humor are delightful. Thank you to both of you!
"Romance, Scotland and History -- with a twist"
Wonderfully written, vividly read, rich, believable storyline. Not bad for time traveling, handling sociopathic soldiers, romantic highlanders in horrid situations. An excellent and believable handling of an incredibly tough storyline. One's heart aches for the hero and heroine even when you occasionally want to give one or the other a kick in the butt! I read constantly and am floored by this series. I find myself dreaming of the characters and their situations. Davina Porter is the perfect reader for this series, too.
